AMERICAN FORK CANYON — A 23-year-old man was flown to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition Tuesday afternoon after falling 75 feet in American Fork Canyon.

A spokesman from the Utah County Sheriff's Office said the man was walking back to his car after a rock climbing outing with friends. He was apparently trying to find a safe route for the group to walk down to Little Mill Campground when he leaned over the edge of a cliff and fell.

The Lone Peak Fire Search and Rescue team transported the man to a helicopter landing zone in the parking lot of Timpanogos Cave. From there he was flown to the hospital.

The man's name hasn't been released, as deputies are still trying to notify his family.
