TOOELE VALLEY — Local racing returns to Miller Motorsports Park this weekend, April 21-22, and there will be a little something for everybody.
The locally-based Miller Park Racing Association for sports cars has been disbanded and replaced by the Utah Region of the National Auto Sport Association (NASA), and they will hold Round 1 of their seven-round championship this weekend. The Utah Region of NASA presented by Sunoco Race Fuels not only hosts racing events for sports cars and open-wheel racers, but also non-competitive High Performance Driving sessions and Lap Battle time attack sessions. The Utah Region of NASA will race on the 2.2- mile East Course, with a full slate of races and driving sessions on both Saturday and Sunday.
At the same time, over on the 2.18-mile West Course, the motorcycles of the Utah Sportbike Association (UtahSBA) return for the first round of their six-round 2012 championship. The UtahSBA will have practice, qualifying and a couple of races on Saturday, with a full slate of sprint races on Sunday.
At the Miller Kart Track, Round 3 of the 2012 Icebreaker Kart Championship presented by Sunoco Race Fuels will take place on Saturday only. This will be the penultimate round of the Icebreaker championship, with the 10-round Utah Kart Championship starting in June. The kart racers range in age from 5 to 65, with a variety of classes that all feature very close, intense racing action.
In addition to the racing, the MMP Zip Line will be open for rides, and the Miller Kart Track will have kart rentals on Sunday. The MMP Clubhouse will be open for lunch, as will the Ace Café.
Tickets for this weekend's events are priced at $6 per day for adults, and kids aged 12 and under are admitted at no charge.
The following weekend, April 28-29, will be MMP's first major event of the year, the Utah Grand Prix. Headlining the event will be the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, with support races provided by the SCCA Pirelli World Challenge Championship, the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama, the IMSA Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship, the Pacific F2000 Championship and the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA West.
General admission tickets for the Utah Grand Prix are priced at $25 for Saturday and $10 for Sunday. Admission on Friday is free to everyone. Kids aged 12 and under are free throughout the weekend.
