Sam Penrod Reporting Five employees in the Utah County Sheriff's Office are now out of a job. It's in response to an investigation into sexual misconduct among the employees while on the job at the Utah County Jail.

The investigation is over and five employees, including three deputies and two civilian employees have resigned.

The investigation became public about three weeks ago and involved allegations that multiple employees were involved in sexual misconduct.

Some were assigned to the county jail; however, no jail inmates were involved. The behavior had apparently been going on for several months, while those involved were both on and off duty and involved four men and one woman.

Besides the five employees who resigned, a male deputy was suspended for two weeks without pay because his involvement was less serious.

The county attorney's office says nothing has been referred to them for any criminal investigation, and they are not expecting any criminal charges will result from this. But it is possible and very likely that the three sworn officers could face some discipline on their police officer certifications from the state's Police Officers Standards and Training Council.

Because this is considered a personnel issue, the deputies who resigned are not being identified.

Of those who resigned, some had worked for the sheriff's office for just a few months, while others were veterans of the department.

A few of them have written letters of apology for the negative publicity they have brought to the sheriff's office.
