MORGAN — Morgan County sheriff's deputies are investigating the deaths of two people who were found in a home by police.

Concerned family members called police about 2:30 p.m. Thursday and asked them to visit the home at 389 W. Hardscrabble Road. Officers went to check on those in the home and noticed bullet holes in a north window, Morgan County Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Lee said.

Deputies arrived to find a deceased man and a woman believed to be in their 50s in the living room of the home. How long the couple was there is unknown, though family members reported that they hadn't heard from either individual in a few days, and neighbors said the gate at the home had been locked for a week.

The deaths are being treated as a homicide, though there is no sign of a struggle or break-in. Police would not confirm that it was a murder-suicide and said no notes or letters were found at the scene.

Lee declined to comment on the manner of death or where the shots may have come from. He said crime scene investigation crews were just beginning to collect evidence.

"We're just really early on right now," he said. "All I can confirm at this point is that there were bullet holes in the windows

Police reported that there have been numerous domestic disturbance calls from the home.

"We have had some activity at this residence before," Lee said.

Neighbors reported that the pair is married, but officials have yet to confirm a relationship.

Cindy Venz, who said she has lived near the couple for over two years, said she had begun to worry because she hadn't seen the pair for a few days and was "shocked" by the news of the deaths.

"It's really sad," she said. "They're nice people. ... It's horrible, just horrible."
