BOUNTIFUL -- A 49-year-old man is in critical condition Thursday after a vehicle hit the man attempting to cross the street.
A driver headed eastbound hit the man who was attempting to cross Orchard Drive in Bountiful where there was no traffic signal, stop sign or crosswalk. The driver stopped and cooperated with police officers, but was clearly shaken up by the accident.
The man was transported to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Officers said they know who the crash victim is, but they aren't sure where he lives or any other details about why he was crossing the street and where he was going.
"The statement from the driver is that she didn't see him just prior to impact," said Bountiful City Police Officer Sgt. Gary Koehn.
Officers are checking both the driver and pedestrian for drugs and alcohol.
