PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A 48-year-old man dragged by his horse drowned in Tibble Fork Reservoir.
The startled horse tried to throw Richard Pettit, but his foot was caught in a stirrup Sunday, the Utah County sheriff's office said, citing witness reports.
The horse entered the reservoir, swam and returned to shore without Pettit. The Herriman man's body was recovered at a depth of 25 feet.
"It's just a really freak, unfortunate accident," Lt. Yvette Rice said. Sunday "was a beautiful day to be up in the canyons."
