DRAPER -- The Canyons School District is asking for nominations for the name of their new high school in Draper. They say the ground has been broken and the foundation poured; they just need a name.
Mary Bailey will be the principal of the school when it opens in fall 2013.
"I'm very excited about all of the possibilities this new high school brings with it," she says in a YouTube video released by the district.
"We want you to be part of the beginnings of this high school by helping us to name the school, choose a mascot and school colors," she says.
Canyons spokesman Jeff Haney says there was a rumor that the mascot had already been picked but he says it's not true. He says it's wide open at this point. People can submit their ideas through November 8 through a form on the district web site or follow the link on their Facebook page.
The District says a committee of school employees and parents will propose finalists to the Canyons Board of Education on Nov. 15. After that, students in the boundaries of the new high school will vote to determine the new school's mascot and colors.
The results will be announced at the Dec. 6 Board Meeting.
