FM 100's Jill Atwood ReportingTwo special ladies really stand out for their efforts in working with folks suffering from Alzheimer's disease in Utah.
Maggie Beers has a gig every Wednesday and has for the last ten years. Her audience is the same every week. She and Lynn Koshland are regulars at Garden Terrace. They're not intimidated or afraid by what they see; they're inspired.
Lynn Koshland Dance Therapist: "I feel I learn so much from the seniors that I'm working with in being with them and sharing pleasurable moments, dance, and learning about their lives."
Maggie has a special bond with these people because her own mom struggled with Alzheimer's for years. She also lived at Garden Terrace.
Maggie Beers: "My mom loved music and it's something she and I shared, and it's a connection for me. People who are struggling to carry on a conversation who are having difficulty doing anything remember how to dance and how to sing, they remember the lyrics to the different songs and it's just so satisfying."
Both ladies call this performance the high point of their week.
Lynn Koshland: "It brings such a sense of aliveness and joy and its so nice to share that."
Both Maggie and Lynn have been nominated for the Silver Bowl Award. This award goes out to outstanding people in each county for their extraordinary community efforts.
