SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Joe Germaine led the Utah Blaze to a victory in the first game in franchise history, throwing for five touchdowns in a 48-to-35 win over the San Jose SaberCats last night.

Germaine finished 17-of-27 for 199 yards and Siaha Burley had five receptions for 54 yards and three scores.

Mark Grieb threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Charles Pauley in the first quarter to give San Jose a 14-to-7 lead but the Blaze then scored 24 straight points to close out the first half. Germaine found Orshawa Bryant on two scoring passes before halftime.

Grieb completed 28-of-40 for 236 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. The SaberCats also lost two fumbles. Pauley had 11 catches for 96 yards and three T-Ds.
