TAYLORSVILLE -- The Taylorsville city council has agreed to fund the legal defense for 14 officers and administrators after a police officer filed a lawsuit against the city and police department.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports Officer Jodie Sampson filed the suit Dec. 13 claiming her employer subjected her to a hostile work environment because she was female. None of the 14 officers and administrators is named in the lawsuit.
Sampson claims several of her male colleagues harassed her and called her names, and her supervisor did nothing to stop it.
According to the suit, Sampson claims it started with an offensive phone message from a coworker. She says she reported it and subsequently was the target of repeated discrimination.
She claims she wasn't allowed to work even "light" duty after returning from being hospitalized for two weeks due to an attack involving a suspect.
She also claims a supervisor once called her a derogatory name in front of her co-workers.
The city has 30 days to respond to the suit.
