Thursday's Hero: Clay Sannar family

PROVO -- On August 29, 2010, Bishop Clay Sannar was shot and killed while at an LDS church in Visalia, California. To honor the family of Bishop Sannar, BYU Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall and his players invited the Sannar family to be this week's Thursday's Hero.

Clay was an avid BYU football fan, listening to games on the radio when he was a child and following them throughout his life.

"When I was in labor with our oldest son," Julie Sannar said, "it was a Saturday and it was time to go to the hospital, but we had to wait until the BYU football game was over and then we could go."

The family was able to sign the team's flag, with a BYU player commenting: "We want people like you going out with us on the field. We want you going into battle with us."

"I think [the kids are] pretty overwhelmed, but pretty excited that they were made part of this," Julie said.

"He's a hero," Clay's father related. "He's touched many in death that he could not have reached in life."
