MURRAY -- Police are trying to track down a driver who struck and killed a Murray man early Sunday morning.
According to Lt. Don Hutson with the Unified Police Department, police received reports of debris covering 4500 South near 345 East around 12:20 a.m. When officers arrived, they found the body of 43-year-old James Waggerby.
Hutson says Waggerby was likely thrown or dragged up to 80 feet by multiple passing vehicles.
"He also could have been run over by other vehicles that went by," Hutson said. "None of those vehicles stopped, unfortunately."
Danielle Waggerby, James Waggerby's sister, says she can't believe someone could hit another person and leave them for dead.
"I don't know how someone lives with their self, knowing they just took a life," she said.
Waggerby's mother, Gladys, says James walked through the area often. "He said, ‘I'm going to visit friends. I'll be back in a little while,'" she said.
Please come forward. My family needs to know what happened, we need to have justice and closure. My brother is dead.

But he never came home. Now, investigators are looking for the driver of the car that first hit Waggerby.
"I think there are all kinds of reasons someone does that. They would have had to known they hit him due to the damage done to the car," said Danielle Waggerby.
Hutson says the car that initially hit Waggerby is likely similar to a Honda Prelude. He believes it had been modified to be extremely low to the ground. Hutson says the car surely incurred extensive damage to the front, hood and windshield.
Hutson says investigators also want to find the other drivers who hit Waggerby and failed to come to his aid.
"If someone came upon this, or hit (him) and was nervous or scared, we really need some additional information associated with this," he said. "We are hoping people will come forward."
In the meantime, Waggerby's family must now make funeral arrangements. They are hoping those responsible speak up so they can find some peace.
"Please come forward," said Danielle Waggerby. "My family needs to know what happened, we need to have justice and closure. My brother is dead."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Unified Police Department.
