SALT LAKE CITY -- The husband of a Maryland woman killed in a crosswalk at Salt Lake International Airport two years ago has filed a lawsuit.

Harry Jordan is suing the driver of the SUV that hit and killed Patricia Jordan in the crosswalk linking Terminal 2 with the parking garage in July 2008.

Prosecutors charged the driver, Evelini Kinikini, with misdemeanor negligent homicide. Jordan is also suing the airport saying that it ignored an employee's warning that an accident was likely to happen.

KSL spoke to that employee, Ian Shepherd, shortly after the fatal accident in 2008. He had resigned in protest.

"I think they've dishonored her life by saying it was this driver that hit it, when they knew that there was engineering that was going to kill somebody," he said at the time.

The airport has not commented on the lawsuit yet.

But in September 2008, airport spokeswoman Barbara Gann told KSL the area was well marked by speed bumps, flashing lights and plenty of road paint.

"It's a congested, heavily used area. We have studied it. We continue to study it. It's a constant area of interest for us. We've used consultants and it's one of the most highly marked crosswalks in the city," she said.

The lawsuit is seeking $500,000 in damages.
