(Baghdad, Iraq-AP) -- An Oil Ministry official in Iraq says an explosion has damaged an oil pipeline and caused a fire.
He says the explosion ripped open part of the main pipeline running from the northern oil fields to an oil refinery and power plant.
It happened in a section of the pipeline near a city about 125 miles northwest of Baghdad.
The Oil Ministry official says the shortage of supply will be compensated by supply from the southern fields until the pipeline is repaired. The damage has yet to be assessed, and it's unclear whether the blast was an act of sabotage.
There have been many sabotage attacks on pipelines in the region.
