Led by Chibuzo Agbo's 18 points, the Boise State Broncos defeated the Wyoming Cowboys 85-68. The Broncos improved to 14-4 with the victory and the Cowboys fell to 5-12.

Herbert, Staley ponder what went wrong in collapse at Jags

Justin Herbert sat in silence at his locker for roughly 15 minutes and stared into the distance. He had taken off his cleats but was still wearing most of his grass-stained uniform. It was a defining scene for a team devastated by a collapse no one could have seen coming. And it made this much clear: Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers won't get over this loss anytime soon. The Chargers did little in the second half, allowing Trevor Lawrence to follow four interceptions with four touchdown passes and rally Jacksonville from a 27-0 deficit. LA lost 31-30 on Riley Patterson's 36-yard field goal on the final play.

Devils continue historic road success with 5-2 win at Kings

Erik Haula, Nikita Okhotiuk and Ryan Graves scored in the second period, and the New Jersey Devils became the first NHL team to win 17 of its first 20 road games by defeating the Los Angeles Kings 5-2. The surprising Devils improved to 17-2-1 on the road, including six straight wins. Mackenzie Blackwood made 34 saves, stopping a penalty shot by Kevin Fiala in the third period. Fiala and Anze Kopitar scored on the power play, but Jonathan Quick allowed four goals on 27 shots and the Kings had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Ellis scores 17, Southern Cal beats Utah 71-56

Boogie Ellis scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, Tre White added 13 points and Southern California beat Utah 71-56. USC (13-5, 5-2 Pac-12) has won nine consecutive home game, the longest single-season streak of its kind since the Trojans won their first nine games at the Galen Center to start the 2016-17 season. Reese Dixon-Waters and Drew Peterson each had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists for Southern Cal. Branden Carlson returned from a one-game absence (non-COVID illness) for Utah (12-7, 5-3) and finished with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting (3 of 5 from 3-point range), nine rebounds and three blocks. Rollie Worster added 12 points. Utah shot 34% (21 of 61) from the field and made 8 of 25 (32%) from 3-point range.

Draisaitl scores 2 as Oilers beat Golden Knights 4-3

Leon Draisaitl scored two goals and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3. Mattias Janmark had a goal and an assist, Klim Kostin scored for the third straight game, and Zach Hyman had two assists to help the Oilers win their third straight to finish a 3-1 road trip. Jack Campbell had 27 saves. Draisaitl had his 50th career two-goal game, and has four goals in the last three games. Paul Cotter, Keegan Kolesar and William Karlsson scored for Pacific Division-leading Vegas, which has lost six straight (0-5-1) against division foes. Logan Thompson had 33 saves.

Knecht's 31 lead Northern Colorado over Portland State 69-67

The Northern Colorado Bears defeated the Portland State Vikings 69-67 led by Dalton Knecht's 31 points. The Bears are now 6-12 with the victory and the Vikings dropped to 8-10.

Battin scores 18, Cal Baptist beats Grand Canyon 79-74

Led by Riley Battin's 18 points, the Cal Baptist Lancers defeated the Grand Canyon Antelopes 79-74. The Lancers are now 11-8 with the win and the Antelopes fell to 12-6.

Morant says sensational slam in Indy was his best one yet

To Ja Morant, the answer was a slam dunk. His ferocious jam Saturday night was his best one yet. Morant's dunk came in the third quarter of the Memphis Grizzlies' 130-112 victory over the Indiana Pacers. He drove left into the middle of the lane, put the ball in his right hand and pulled his arm far back to easily throw it down over leaping Pacers big man Jalen Smith. He says it topped his collection of sensational slams because of the difficulty. Teammates leaped off the bench in excitement and reaction followed quickly on social media. Cleveland's Donovan Mitchell urged Morant to do the slam dunk contest.

UC Riverside takes down UCSB 65-64

Led by Kyle Owens' 19 points, the UC Riverside Highlanders defeated the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 65-64. The Highlanders improved to 12-6 with the win and the Gauchos fell to 13-3.

Shelton powers Loyola Marymount over San Diego 87-84

Cameron Shelton had 28 points to spark Loyola Marymount to a 98-84 victory over San Diego. Shelton added seven assists for the Lions (13-7, 3-3 West Coast Conference). Keli Leaupepe pitched in with 18 points and nine rebounds. Chance Stephens sank five 3-pointers and scored 17. Marcellus Earlington led the Toreros (9-11, 2-4) with 24 points and seven rebounds. Jase Townsend delivered 21 points and five assists.

Lillard has 32 and Blazers beat Mavs 136-119 to end skid

Damian Lillard had 36 points and 10 assists, and the Portland Trail Blazers snapped a five-game losing streak with a 136-119 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Jusuf Nurkic added 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Blazers, who face the Mavericks again on Sunday night. Spencer Dinwiddie led Dallas with 25 points. Luka Doncic was held to a season-low 15 points before Mavericks coach Jason Kidd pulled him with seven minutes to go.

Malachi Smith had a season-high 27 points, hitting seven 3-pointers, and No. 8 Gonzaga used a dominant first half to rout Portland 115-75 on Saturday night. Gonzaga (16-3, 5-0 West Coast Conference) never trailed, racing to a 40-14 lead with seven minutes left in the first half en route to its NCAA-best 75th straight home victory and 15th straight win over Portland. Gonzaga unleashed a flurry of 3s early on, hitting six through the first 10 minutes while Portland (9-11, 1-4) shot 0 for 9 from behind the arc during that time. Drew Timme scored 18 points for Gonzaga. Moses Wood led the Pilots with 19 points.

AP source: Trey Mancini, Chicago Cubs agree to 2-year deal

Trey Mancini and the Chicago Cubs have agreed to a two-year contract, according to a person familiar with the deal. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the agreement is pending a successful physical. Mancini, a cancer survivor, helped the Houston Astros win the World Series last season after arriving Aug. 1 from Baltimore in a trade. He struggled at the plate with Houston and finished the season batting .239 with 18 home runs, 63 RBIs and a .710 OPS overall for the Orioles and Astros. Mancini, who turns 31 in March, brings a right-handed bat with power and could be a primary option at designated hitter for the Cubs.

Brandon Whitney's 18 points helped Montana defeat Idaho State 84-55. Whitney was 7-of-9 shooting with two 3-pointers for the Grizzlies (9-9, 3-3 Big Sky Conference). Aanen Moody finished with 15 points and Dischon Thomas sank three 3-pointers and scored 13. Jay Nagle led the way for the Bengals (6-12, 3-2) with 10 points.

Embiid's jumper gives 76ers 118-117 win over Jazz

Joel Embiid made a jumper with 5.7 seconds to lift the Philadelphia 76ers to a 118-117 victory over the Utah Jazz. James Harden had 31 points and 11 assists to lead Philadelphia. Embiid chipped in 30 points and seven rebounds. Tyrese Maxey scored 21 points and Shake Milton added 17.  Jordan Clarkson scored 38 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Utah. Talen Horton-Tucker chipped in a season-high 20 points off the bench. Mike Conley added 14 points and eight assists, while Walker Kessler finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Lawrence rallies Jaguars from 27 down to beat Chargers 31-30

and rallied the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 31-30 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Lawrence engineered the winning drive, highlighted by Travis Etienne's 25-yard run on a fourth-and-1 play, and put the Jaguars in position for Riley Patterson's 36-yard field goal on the final play. It capped a 27-point comeback, the third largest in playoff history. Brayden Point had two goals and an assist, leading the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Nick Perbix and Alex Killorn also scored for the Lightning, who have won seven of their last nine and improved to 26-2-1 when scoring at least three goals. Andrei Vasilevskiy, who had allowed three or more goals in four straight games, had 23 saves. Tyler Pitlick and Pavel Buchnevich scored for the Blues. Jared McCann has hat trick, Kraken win 8th straight

Jared McCann had his first career hat trick and the Seattle Kraken beat the Chicago Blackhawks 8-5 on Saturday night for their franchise-record eighth straight victory. McCann scored twice in a five-goal flurry in a 3:41 span of the first period. All-star rookie Matty Beniers and Oliver Bjorkstrand each had a goal and an assist and the Kraken won their seventh straight on the road to become the first NHL team to sweep a trip of seven or more games. Daniel Sprong, Andre Burakovsky and Eeli Tovanen also scored for Seattle, and Martin Jones made 22 saves. Taylor Raddysh had a goal and two assists for Chicago. Jonathan Toews, Maxi Domi, Isaak Phillips and Patrick Kane also scored.

No. 10 Texas rallies in 2nd half, tops Texas Tech 72-70

Marcus Carr scored 20 points,  Sir'Jabari Rice added 18 and No. 10 Texas rallied again in the second half Saturday night to beat Texas Tech 72-70. Carr's off-balance 3-pointer to beat the shot clock early in the second half started a 20-4 Texas run that pulled the Longhorns out of a 10-point deficit. Texas had rallied from 18 down against TCU a few days earlier. The Texas win snapped the Red Raiders' four-game win streak on the Longhorns' home court. Pop Isaacs scored 23 points to lead Texas Tech which remains winless in the Big 12.

Maxwell hits 6 3s, No. 12 Gonzaga women beat Portland 73-66

and finished with 20 points to help No. 20 Gonzaga beat Portland 73-66, handing the Pilots their first loss in West Coast Conference play. Esther Little had 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals, Kaylynne Truong also scored 12 points and Yvonne Ejim added 10 for Gonzaga (17-2, 7-0). The Bulldogs have won 10 games in a row since an 84-63 loss at No. 2 Stanford on Nov. 4. Haylee Andrews led Portland (12-6, 6-1) with 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Alex Fowler added 19 points and five assists. The Pilots had their seven-game win streak snapped.

Led by Trenton Massner's 19 points, the Western Illinois Leathernecks defeated the UMKC Kangaroos 60-52. The Leathernecks are now 10-8 with the win and the Kangaroos dropped to 7-12.

Edwards, bench lift Wolves to 110-102 victory over Cavs

Anthony Edwards scored 26 points and the Minnesota Timberwolves got a huge boost from their bench in a 110-102 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Naz Reid scored 17 of Minnesota's 56 bench points, while Jalen Nowell had 16. Luka Garza added nine for the short-handed Wolves. Minnesota was without Rudy Gobert for the second half due to right groin soreness, and Jaden McDaniels picked up his fifth foul just 2:37 into the second half. Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen both scored 19 points for Cleveland, and Darius Garland added 15. Donovan Mitchell, who was questionable for Saturday's game with an illness, finished with 14 points on 5-of-16 shooting.

Jags QB Lawrence makes playoff history with 4 1st-half picks

Jacksonville's Trevor Lawrence became the third quarterback in the Super Bowl era to throw four interceptions in the first half of a playoff game. Detroit's Gary Danielson and Denver's Craig Morton are the others. Lawrence's nightmarish start left the Jaguars in a 27-0 hole against the Los Angeles Chargers before he connected with Evan Engram for a touchdown just before halftime. Lawrence completed 10 of 24 passes for 77 yards in the opening 30 minutes, with a passer rating of 24.5. It had been 0.0 before the touchdown. Jacksonville turned the ball over a fifth time when a punt hit Chris Claybrook's helmet, and the Chargers recovered.

No. 7 UCLA rallies in 2nd half for 68-54 win over Colorado

Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 23 points, Jaylen Clark added 18 and No. 7 UCLA rallied in the second half to defeat Colorado 68-54 Saturday night. Jaquez also tied a career-high with 13 rebounds for his second double-double of the season as the Bruins extended their winning streak to 13. KJ Simpson led Colorado with 17 points and Javon Ruffin scored 11.

Seahawks collapse in 2nd half of playoff loss to 49ers

When Charles Omenihu knocked the ball out of Geno Smith's hands, Seattle's chances began to go away as well. The turnover spoiled a scoring chance for the Seahawks and soon the game as San Francisco turned a tight game into a blowout. The Seahawks' surprising season came to a sudden end Saturday when they allowed 25 consecutive points in the second half and lost 41-23 to the 49ers in a wild-card game.

Grzelcyk breaks tie late, Bruins beat Maple Leafs 4-3

11 points ahead of Atlantic Division rival Toronto. The Maple Leafs had beaten Boston four straight, dating to before the pandemic. Michael Bunting, Pierre Engvall and Auston Matthews scored for the Maple Leafs. Matt Murray made 30 saves.

Young scores 29, Murray 27 as Hawks beat Raptors 114-103

Trae Young scored 29 points, Dejounte Murray had 27 and the Atlanta Hawks never trailed in a 114-103 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Onyeka Okongwu had 10 points and 13 rebounds, and AJ Griffin came off the bench to score 13 as the Hawks won for the third time in four games after losing five of the previous six. The Hawks won the third and final regular-season meeting between the teams to take the series 2-1. Scottie Barnes led Toronto with 27 points and 12 rebounds, and Pascal Siakam scored 15 points before fouling out.

Avalanche rout Senators 7-0 after losing 7 of 8 games

Mikko Rantanen, Artturi Lehkonen and Alex Newhook each scored twice, Pavel Francouz made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season and the Colorado Avalanche routed the Ottawa Senators 7-0 on Saturday night. Rantanen scored his 28th and 29th goals to break Joe Sakic's 27-year-old team record for goals at the halfway point of the regular season. Colorado had lost seven of eight games and was two days removed from a loss to the last-place Chicago Blackhawks. The seven goals are the most the Avalanche have scored this season.Brad Hunt also scored for Colorado.

Panthers score 3 in 2nd period, rally to beat Canucks 4-3

Aaron Ekblad scored the tiebreaking goal in the second period and the Florida Panthers beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-3. The Panthers scored three times in the second and sent Vancouver to its fourth straight loss in a five-game trip that wraps up Sunday in Carolina. Ryan Lomberg, Eric Staal and Aleksander Barkov also scored for Florida. Sergei Bobrovsky made 35 saves. Jack Studnicka, Tyler Myers and Elias Pettersson scored for the Canucks. Spencer Martin had 31 saves in the loss.

Flyers spoil Ovechkin's 30th goal milestone, beat Caps 3-1

Scott Laughton had a goal and an assist and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Washington Capitals, 3-1, on Saturday night. Alex Ovechkin's 30th goal of the season stood as the lone goal for Washington. He is tied with Mike Gartner at 17 for the most 30-goal seasons in NHL history. James van Riemsdyk and Wade Allison scored two goals in 49 seconds in the second period to secure the win for Philadelphia. Carter Hart made 39 saves for his third win in four starts. Darcy Kuemper stopped 22 shots in the loss.

Cizikas and Beauvillier score early, Isles top Canadiens 2-1

Casey Cizikas and Anthony Beauvillier scored first-period goals and Ilya Sorokin made 22 saves as the New York Islanders snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the Montreal Canadiens 2-1. Nick Suzuki scored for Montreal midway through the third. The Islanders had lost the first two games of their five-game homestand to Dallas and Minnesota after dropping three of four on a Western road trip to start the calendar year.

Chris Bell scored 17 points, Judah Mintz scored seven of his 14 points in the final 3 minutes and Syracuse overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to beat Notre Dame 78-73. Jesse Edwards added 13 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and four blocks for Syracuse (12-6, 5-2 ACC). Marcus Hammond hit a 3-pointer with 2:37 left that gave the Fighting Irish a two-point lead but Mintz answered with a jumper 24 seconds later and made 1-of-2 free throws give Syracuse a 72-71 lead with 1:46 to go. Mintz, who finished with eight assists, made 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in the final 20 seconds. Hammond scored 18 points, Dane Goodwin added 15 with six assists and Laszewski had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Notre Dame.

Laine has 10th hat trick, Blue Jackets end road skid

Patrik Laine had his 10th NHL hat trick and the Columbus Blue Jackets snapped a 10-game road losing streak, holding off the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Saturday night. Laine, whose previous hat trick came Feb. 17 last season against Chicago, had gone scoreless in his last nine games. Vladislav Gavrikov also scored for the Blue Jackets, and Johnny Gaudreau and Jack Roslovic had two assists apiece. Elvis Merzlikins made 25 saves for his first victory since Dec. 11. Olli Maatta, Jake Walman and Lucas Raymond scored third-period goals for the Red Wings, and Ville Husso made 21 saves. Detroit beat Winnipeg and Toronto to open its three-game homestand.

Alonso: Mets on the brink of something extremely special

New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso was back at his old high school in Tampa, Florida, this weekend for a charity event. He took part in a home run derby with Astros star Kyle Tucker and hit two drives over 400 feet. The Mets have signed free-agent ace Justin Verlander and made several other key moves in the offseason. Alonso says he thinks the Mets are "on the brink of something extremely special" under big-spending owner Steve Cohen. The Mets went 101-61 in the regular season last year, then lost to San Diego in the wild-card round.

Australian Open lookahead: Nadal, Gauff in Day 1 action

The Australian Open begins at Melbourne Park with 18-year-old American Coco Gauff in action in Rod Laver Arena against Katerina Siniakova. The year's first Grand Slam tennis tournament starts Monday morning in Australia, which is Sunday in the United States. The most attention-worthy match of Day 1 probably is the one in Laver that features 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal facing off against fellow left-hander Jack Draper. Nadal has lost six of his past seven matches dating to last season, including an 0-2 mark so far this year. Nadal is the defending champion in Australia. Other past major champions in action on Day 1 include Daniil Medvedev, Iga Swiatek and Emma Raducanu.

Tatum, Celtics roll past Hornets for 6th straight victory

Jayson Tatum scored 17 of his 33 points in a pivotal third quarter, Malcolm Brogdon added 30 points and the Boston Celtics beat the Charlotte Hornets 122-106 to push their winning streak to six. Al Horford had 16 points and Marcus Smart added 13 points and 12 assists for the Celtics, who made 19 3-pointers and erased a 16-point first half deficit. LaMelo Ball finished with 31 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for Charlotte. Terry Rozier had 21 points for the Hornets, who have lost seven of their last eight games.

Brooks, Williams rally Washington to 81-78 OT win over Cal

Keion Brooks Jr. finished with 26 points, Noah Williams scored a season-high 22 and Washington rallied to beat California 81-78 in overtime. The Huskies (11-8, 3-5 Pac-12 Conference) forced overtime with a late 6-0 run. Brooks made two free throws with 2:23 left. Williams hit a jumper at the 1:21 mark and Brooks scored with 12 seconds left to force the extra period tied at 63. Brooks and Koren Johnson scored six points apiece, Williams added four and the Huskies never trailed in OT. Grant Newell's 3-pointer pulled the Golden Bears (3-15, 2-5) within 79-78 with six seconds left. Brooks made two free throws two seconds later and Johnson blocked Sam Alajiki's 3-pointer at the buzzer to preserve the win.

LJ Cryer scored 16 points with four 3-pointers and Baylor ended a three-game skid beating Oklahoma State 74-58. Baylor built a 13-0 lead with help of a pair of 3-pointers from LJ Cryer and another from Jalen Bridges. Oklahoma State didn't score until Avery Anderson III made a layup a little more than four-and-a-half minutes in. The Cowboys turned it around and used a 13-1 run to reduce their deficit to 17-15 when reserve Caleb Asberry made a 3 with 10:24 left before intermission. But Baylor closed the half the way it started, outscored Oklahoma State 22-8 before intermission and led 39-23 at halftime. Asberry scored 14 points for Oklahoma State.

Williams scores 15, William & Mary defeats UNCW 69-67

Charlie Williams scored 15 points off of the bench to help lead the William & Mary Tribe over the UNC Wilmington Seahawks 69-67. The Tribe are now 8-10 on the season, while the Seahawks fell to 14-5.

Taylor leads Texas A&M in 94-53 rout of South Carolina

Wade Taylor IV knocked down 8 of his 10 shots from the field, with his only misses coming from behind the 3-point arc where he was 4 of 6, and Texas A&M led wire-to-wire in a 94-53 rout of South Carolina. The Aggies exploded out of the gate, racing to a 32-9 lead with 7:30 left in the first half before the Gamecocks could reach double digits and led, 50-18 by intermission. Texas A&M shot 34 of 62 from the field (54.8%) including 9 of 20 from distance and converted 17 of 21 from the line en route to its sixth straight win.

Buckley makes a pair of eagles and leads the Sony Open

Hayden Buckley has a two-shot lead in the Sony Open as he goes after his first PGA Tour victory and a spot in the Masters. It took a lot to get there. Buckley holed out from 133 yards for eagle on No. 10. And then he finished with an eagle on the par-5 18th. That gives him a two-shot lead over Chris Kirk, Ben Taylor and David Lipsky. He also has a little separation. That didn't look possible at one point Saturday because eight players were tied for the lead. Andrew Putnam had a 62 and was three shot back.

Couisnard scores 27, leads Oregon over No. 9 Arizona 87-68

Jermaine Couisnard scored 27 points in his first start of the season as Oregon beat No. 9 Arizona 87-68 on Saturday night. Couisnard missed the first 14 games of the season due to injury. Senior center N'Faly Dante added 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Ducks shot 54 percent from the field. Will Richardson added 14 points and Nate Bittle scored 10. Kylan Boswell scored 15 points to pace the Wildcats. Azuolas Tubelis had 14 points and six rebounds while Courtney Ramey made four 3-pointers for 12 points and Oumar Ballo added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Purdy's 4 TDs lead 49ers past Seahawks 41-23 in playoffs

Brock Purdy threw three touchdown passes and ran for a fourth score in his playoff debut, leading the San Francisco 49ers to a 41-23 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in a wild-card game. Purdy picked up where he left off in the regular season for the 49ers and showed few signs of playoff jitters by winning his sixth straight start since replacing an injured Jimmy Garoppolo early in a Week 13 win over Miami. The Niners advanced to the divisional round where they will host either Minnesota, Tampa Bay or Dallas next weekend. The Seahawks kept it close before a strip sack by Charles Omenihu late in the third quarter spoiled a red zone drive.

Milton scores 20 to lead UAPB over Florida A&M 67-54

Kylen Milton had 20 points in UAPB's 67-54 victory against Florida A&M. Milton added five rebounds for the Golden Lions (7-11, 3-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Shaun Doss pitched in with 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Jordan Chatman scored 15 points to lead the Rattlers (2-13, 0-4), who have lost seven straight.

AP source: Packers LB Quay Walker fined $13,261 for shove

A person familiar with the situation says Green Bay Packers linebacker Quay Walker was fined $13,261 by the NFL for the shove that led to his ejection from a 20-16 loss to the Detroit Lions last Sunday. The person also said Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas was fined $11,139 for his unsportsmanlike-conduct penalty in that game and the Lions running back Jamaal Williams was fined $18,566 for his two touchdown dances. Williams wasn't penalized during the game for either dance. The person spoke to The Associated Press the condition of anonymity because the fines haven't been announced.

Ravens leave QB Brett Hundley on practice squad

The Baltimore Ravens have left quarterback Brett Hundley on the practice squad. That's a sign that Tyler Huntley will be able to play in Sunday night's playoff game at Cincinnati. With Lamar Jackson out with a knee injury, Huntley would be next in line at quarterback, followed by Anthony Brown. But Huntley has dealt with shoulder problems recently. The fact that Hundley was not activated means Huntley and Brown are the only options left.

Titans interview Bears' Cunningham, Cards' Harris for GM job

The Tennessee Titans interviewed Chicago assistant general manager Ian Cunningham and Quentin Harris, Arizona's vice president of player personnel, on Saturday for their general manager job. The Titans confirmed they concluded the latest interviews late Saturday afternoon. This is the third straight day the search committee headed up by controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk has interviewed a pair of candidates. She is looking to replace Jon Robinson after firing him Dec. 6 in his seventh season. The Titans finished the season on a seven-game skid and missed the playoffs. Chicago created the title of assistant general manager to hire Cunningham only a year ago.

Led by Terence Harcum's 15 points, the Appalachian State Mountaineers defeated the Troy Trojans 58-45 on Saturday night. The Mountaineers moved to 10-9 with the victory and the Trojans dropped to 12-7.

Miller's 31 points, 7 3s lead No. 4 Alabama past LSU 106-66

Brandon Miller scored 31 points and had six 3-pointers by halftime to lead No. 4 Alabama to a 106-66 victory over LSU in the most lopsided meeting in series history. Miller, the nation's top scoring freshman and a potential NBA lottery pick, matched LSU's 22 first-half points by himself for the streaking Crimson Tide. It turned into the biggest mismatch of the series' 189-game history. Alabama led 59-22 by halftime, only one point shy of the previous biggest Alabama-LSU margin. The Tide won 113-75 during the 1975-76 season.

Cambridge Jr. helps Arizona St. hold off Oregon St. 74-69

Desmond Cambridge Jr. made four 3-pointers and scored 21 points to lead Arizona State to a 74-69 victory over Oregon State for its fourth straight win. Devan Cambridge added 13 points and Frankie Collins had 12 for Arizona State (15-3, 6-1 Pac-12).  A Jordan Pope 3 capped a 11-3 surge that pulled Oregon State within 68-67 with 1:44 left. The Sun Devils made 6 of 8 from the line to seal it. Michael Rataj scored 17 points for the Beavers (7-11, 1-6), who have lost five straight.

Adams scores late, No. 2 Kansas edges No. 14 Iowa St 62-60

KJ Adams scored in the paint, breaking a tie with under 12 seconds left and No. 2 Kansas held off No. 14 Iowa State 62-60. Iowa State had a last shot to win, but Caleb Grill's 3-point attempt caromed off the rim at the buzzer. Kansas improved to 16-1. Gradey Dick had 21 points and Adams added 15 for the Jayhawks. Gabe Kalscheur scored 23 points for the Cyclones, who are 13-3. The game commemorated 125 years of Kansas basketball, with more than 160 former players, coaches and staff at Allen Fieldhouse.

Led by Dawson Baker's 11 points, the UC Irvine Anteaters defeated the CSU Northridge Matadors 71-57 on Saturday night. The Anteaters are now 12-5 on the season, while the Matadors dropped to 3-14.

Jordan Brown scored 23 points as Louisiana beat South Alabama 79-76. Brown added eight rebounds and six assists for the Ragin' Cajuns (14-4, 4-2 Sun Belt Conference). Greg Williams Jr. had 19 points, while Joe Charles scored 13 with seven boards. Isaiah Moore finished with 21 points, six assists and three steals for the Jaguars (8-10, 2-4).

Fernandez de Oliveira takes 4-shot lead in Latin Amateur

Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira of Argentina is one round away from getting into the Masters and U.S. Open. The senior from Arkansas tied a Latin America Amateur Championship record with a 63 and his nine birdies. He also smashed the 54-hole record with 198. That gives him a four-shot lead going into the final round at Grand Reserve. Fernandez de Oliveira was a runner-up last year when it was held in the Dominican Republic. The winner of the Latin America Amateur earns a spot at Augusta National in April and at Los Angeles Country Club for the US Open.

Franklin, Vander Plas lead No. 13 Virginia past FSU 67-58

Armaan Franklin scored 20 points and Ben Vander Plas added 15 points and seven rebounds as No. 13 Virginia controlled from the opening minutes and defeated Florida State 67-58. Franklin, a senior guard, averages 11.4 points per game but had 13 points by halftime as Virginia cruised to its third straight win. The Cavaliers made 11 of 22 3-pointers, the fifth time in 16 games that they have connected on 10 or more from beyond the arc. Florida State's Matthew Cleveland had 10 points and 10 rebounds for his seventh straight double-double, a feat no Seminole has achieved since Reggie Royals in the 1971-72 season.

Russell scores 37, SE Missouri St. takes down Morehead St.

The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks defeated the Morehead State Eagles 91-86 on Saturday night led by Phillip Russell's 37 points. The Redhawks improved to 9-10 with the win and the Eagles fell to 10-9.

Cubs to give Sandberg statue, not ready to reunite with Sosa

The Chicago Cubs plan to honor Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg with a statue outside Wrigley Field and put him in an exclusive club that includes Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, Ferguson Jenkins and Harry Caray. Chairman Tom Ricketts surprised Sandberg with the announcement Saturday that the statue "is in progress" during a question-and-answer session with fans, drawing a standing ovation in a crowded ballroom. They weren't as happy when he told them there has been no progress toward welcoming back Sammy Sosa. Ricketts says he remains hopeful a reunion will happen. The Cubs expect to unveil Sandberg's statue in 2024. The slugging and slick-fielding second baseman says it "means so much to me because Wrigley Field was always my friend and so friendly to me."

Florida beats No. 20 Mizzou behind Castleton's double-double

Colin Castleton had 16 points and 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the season, and Florida rallied from 11 down to upend No. 20 Missouri 73-64 on Saturday. Castleton chipped in six assists, three steals and two blocks as the Gators won their third consecutive game. He made 7 of 11 shots and finished with five offensive boards. Missouri lost its third in a row on the road, this one mostly because it had no answer for Castleton inside. Kobe Brown led the Tigers with 21 points.

UL Monroe beats Texas State 61-58

Led by Jamari Blackmon's 24 points, the UL Monroe Warhawks defeated the Texas State Bobcats 61-58 on Saturday. The Warhawks are now 8-11 on the season, while the Bobcats fell to 10-9.

Sibande's 21 points spark Pitt past Georgia Tech, 71-60

Nike Sibande came off the bench to score a season-high 21 points and grab six rebounds to help Pittsburgh hold off Georgia Tech 71-60. Sibande has scored in double figures off the Panthers' bench in three of their last four games, including a 16-point effort in a 68-65 win over No. 11 Virginia.

Conway scores 17 as Towson knocks off Monmouth 68-48

Led by Ryan Conway's 17 points, the Towson Tigers defeated the Monmouth Hawks 68-48. The Tigers are now 11-7 on the season, while the Hawks moved to 1-17.

No. 3 Ohio State women stay perfect, beat Nebraska 76-67

Rebecca Mikulasikova had 25 points and No. 3 Ohio State opened up an early double-digit lead and beat Nebraska 76-67.  It took the Buckeyes less than five minutes to take control of the game, going up 13-2 on Taylor Thierry's layup midway through the first quarter. Ohio State improved to 18-0. Sam Haiby scored 16 points for Nebraska, which is 11-7.

Falko sparks Binghamton to 66-65 victory over UMass-Lowell

Jacob Falko scored 19 points and made the second of two free throws with one second left to lift Binghamton over UMass-Lowell 66-65. Falko shot 7 for 13 from the floor and made 3 of 5 from the free-throw line for the Bearcats (7-10, 3-1 America East Conference). Tariq Balogun finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Armon Harried scored 13. The River Hawks (15-4, 3-2) were led by Everette Hammond with 16 points and six rebounds.

Williams rallies No. 19 Oklahoma women past No. 23 Kansas

Madi Williams scored 13 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter, Liz Scott had a double-double and No. 19 Oklahoma rallied to defeat No. 23 Kansas 80-74. After Williams scored the opening basket of the game, the Sooners never led again until Scott's layup to open the fourth quarter made it 55-53. Williams and Aubrey Joens hit 3-pointers and Williams made a layup to cap a 10-0 run for a 74-62 lead with two minutes to go. A rushed shot and turnover helped Kansas score seven straight before Oklahoma made six free throws in the final minute to wrap it up. Wyvette Mayberry scored 20 points for the Jayhawks, who have lost three straight.

Ole Miss hires Alabama's Golding as defensive coordinator

Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding is leaving for the same job at rival Mississippi. Golding had been the Crimson Tide's defensive coordinator since 2018. The 38-year-old Golding joins coach Lane Kiffin while remaining in the Southeastern Conference Western Division. Kiffin is himself a former Alabama offensive coordinator. Golding helped guide the Tide to a national championship after the 2020 season and a title game appearance a year later. Alabama failed to make the College Football Playoff this season.

Bottom club Cremonese fires coach Massimiliano Alvini

Cremonese has fired coach Massimiliano Alvini shortly after losing against Monza 3-2 and staying rooted to the bottom of Serie A. Cremonese's 11th defeat in 18 league matches leaves it eight points from safety. It is also the only team in Serie A without a win. The 52-year-old Alvini had been in charge of Cremonese since June. It was his first job coaching a side in the Italian top-flight.

Mikel Oyarzabal netted his first goal in 10 months after recently returning from a serious knee injury to seal Real Sociedad's 3-1 win over 10-man Athletic Bilbao in the Basque Country's top regional derby on Saturday. Takefusa Kubo featured for Sociedad with a goal to make it 2-0 after Alexander Sorloth opened the scoring. The Japan winger also earned a penalty that left Bilbao a man down and sent Oyarzabal to the spot to successfully convert. Third-placed Sociedad has pulled to within three points of second-placed Real Madrid in the Spanish league. Girona rallied for a 2-1 victory over a struggling Sevilla.

Rush's 30 lead Youngstown State over Oakland 85-69

The Youngstown State Penguins defeated the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 85-69 on Saturday led by Brandon Rush's 30 points. The Penguins improved to 14-5 with the victory and the Golden Grizzlies fell to 7-12.

Bacot, North Carolina roll Louisville 80-59

Playing on an injured ankle, Armando Bacot recorded a double-double and reserve Dmarco Dunn scored 14 points and North Carolina beat Louisville 80-59. Bacot scored 14 points and had 16 rebounds and R.J. Davis and Puff Johnson scored 12 apiece for the Tar Heels. North Carolina's bench contributed 26 points to the win effort. El Ellis scored 22 points for Louisville which hasn't won since Dec. 17.

Flames score 4 goals in 2nd period, hold off Stars 6-5

Nazem Kadri's team-best 17th goal and Chris Tanev's first of the season were part of Calgary's four-goal second period as the Flames hung on to beat the Dallas Stars 6-5. Andrew Mangiapane scored just 25 seconds into the game and Trevor Lewis, Elias Lindholm and Rasmus Andersson also had goals for the Flames. Calgary led 6-1 late in the second period and has earned points in it last five games. Dan Vladar made 29 saves to win the matchup of backup goaltenders. Joe Pavelski had two goals and an assist for the Stars, who are winless in two straight and four of their last six games.

PSG upset after Paris mayor says its stadium is not for sale

Paris Saint-Germain has reacted with surprise and disappointment after city Mayor Anne Hidalgo said the club's Parc des Princes home is not for sale. It means PSG will not be able to buy its own ground outright. PSG benefits from a long-term lease there but wants to buy its stadium. But Hidalgo has told readers of Paris-based newspaper Le Parisien that this will not happen. Hidalgo says it is "a firm and definitive position" that the stadium won't be sold. PSG responded by saying "it is surprising and disappointing to hear that the mayor of Paris is taking a position" which may force the club to look elsewhere for a new home.

Siegrist scores 32, No. 25 'Nova women rally from 16 down

Maddy Siegrist scored 18 of her 32 points in the fourth quarter and No. 25 Villanova defeated St. John's 64-61 after trailing by 16 points midway through the fourth quarter. A three-point play by Jayla Everett gave St. John's a 59-43 lead with 5:28 remaining in the game before a personal 11-0 run by Siegrist drew the Wildcats within 59-54 with 2:59 remaining.  After Jillian Archer's putback stopped the run for St. John's, the Villanova defense continued to dominate and the Red Storm did not score again, their final five possessions ending in four turnovers and a blocked shot.

Vanderbilt rallies from 10 down, beats No. 15 Arkansas 97-84

Tyrin Lawrence scored 22 points as Vanderbilt rallied from a 10-point deficit in the second half and beat No. 15 Arkansas 97-84 on Saturday to snap a two-game skid. The Commodores outscored Arkansas 63-42 after halftime and wound up leading by as much as 14. Arkansas lost its third straight and never got closer than seven down the stretch. The Commodores knocked down all 12 free throws in the final 1:57 to seal the victory. Jordan Wright scored 17 points and also helped limit Arkansas freshman Anthony Black to three of his 18 points in the second half.

Cornish's 14 lead Dartmouth past Pennsylvania 75-71

Ryan Cornish's 14 points helped Dartmouth defeat Pennsylvania 75-71. Cornish was 4 of 6 shooting and 5 of 5 from the free throw line for the Big Green. Dame Adelekun scored 12 points and added six rebounds. Brandon Mitchell-Day had 10 points. The Quakers were led by Max Martz and Nick Spinoso with 22 points each. Jordan Dingle added 14 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Kalkbrenner leads Creighton over No. 19 Providence 73-67

Ryan Kalkbrenner scored 13 of his 21 points in the final 15 minutes and Creighton ended No. 19 Providence's nine-game win streak with a 73-67 victory. The Bluejays got 20 points from Trey Alexander and 19 from Baylor Scheierman. Creighton was up 16 points two minutes into the second half before Providence went on a 25-9 run with Scheierman on the bench in foul trouble for most of it. Bryce Hopkins' 3-pointer from the wing tied it 54-all with eight minutes to play. Hopkins had 20 points to lead the Friars.

Brown, No. 17 Wolverine women top rival Spartans 70-55

Leigha Brown had 14 of her 17 points in the first half, Emily Kiser had 10 of her 14 in the second half and No. 17 Michigan handled rival Michigan State 70-55. Laila Phelia added 12 points for the Wolverines and Maddie Nolan 10 with three 3-pointers, giving her 137 and moving her into the school's top 10 for career 3s. Michigan State scored the first four points of the second quarter to lead 15-14 but Phelia and Nolan hit 3-pointers and Michigan led the rest of the way. The Wolverines didn't pull away until scoring the last seven points in the third quarter for a 51-39 lead. The lead was in double figures throughout the fourth quarter. Kamaria McDaniel had 12 points to lead the Spartans, who never got untracked offensively.

No. 17 TCU snaps No. 11 Kansas State's 9-game winning streak

Emanuel Miller scored 23 points, Eddie Lampkin Jr. had a season-high 17 and No. 17 TCU beat Kansas State 82-68, ending the 11th-ranked Wildcats' nine-game winning streak. Mike Miles Jr. had a double-double with 13 points with 11 assists for the 14-3 Horned Frogs, who were coming off back-to-back losses after an 11-game winning streak of their own. The 15-2 Wildcats had gone unranked to the verge of the top 10 after winning three consecutive games against Top 25 teams, but trailed by as many as 25 points midway through the second half. Keyontae Johnson had 18 points for K-State, and Markquis Nowell finished with 16 points.

Led by Jalen Rucker's 29 points, the Army Black Knights defeated the Boston University Terriers 83-74. The Black Knights improved to 11-8 with the win and the Terriers fell to 9-10.

Georgia celebrates back-to-back titles with another parade

For the second straight year, Athens streets were closed for a parade leading to a celebration at Sanford Stadium for Georgia's national championship. At the stadium, many fans held up three fingers as they looked ahead to the goal of a threepeat. No team has won three consecutive national championships in the AP poll era, which dates to 1936. Georgia won its second straight national championship despite having a record 15 players selected from their 2021 team in last year's NFL draft. The Bulldogs clinched the 2022 championship with their runaway 65-7 win over TCU in Monday night's national championship game.

Lafayette takes down Holy Cross 62-48

Led by T.J. Berger's 19 points, the Lafayette Leopards defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders 62-48. The Leopards moved to 5-14 with the victory and the Crusaders dropped to 6-13.

Vincent leads Heat to 2nd straight win over Bucks

Gabe Vincent scored 27 points, Bam Adebayo had 20 points and 13 rebounds and the Miami Heat beat the Milwaukee Bucks 111-95. Victor Oladipo added 20 points and Jimmy Butler had 16 for the Heat. Miami won its second straight against the Bucks after a 108-102 home victory on Thursday. Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo missed the two games against Miami because of left knee soreness. The Heat also was short- handed as guards Tyler Herro and Kyle Lowry sat out.Down eight at halftime, the Bucks cut it to 63-62 on Bobby Portis' two free throws midway through the third quarter. The Heat responded with six straight points.

Oquendo rallies Georgia, keeps Ole Miss winless in SEC 62-58

Kario Oquendo scored all 15 of his points in the second half and his 10 straight points in the final four minutes carried Georgia to a 62-58 win over Ole Miss. The win came in first-year Georgia coach Mike White's first trip to Oxford, where he was a four-year starter for the Rebels, leading them to three straight 20-win seasons before becoming an assistant coach on teams that won two Southeastern Conference West titles.

Man United flying high after City win and Liverpool loss

It was a very good day for Manchester United, whose revival under Erik ten Hag is really taking shape. As if victory against Manchester City in the 189th Manchester derby wasn't enough to get Old Trafford rejoicing, Liverpool's shock 3-0 loss at Brighton gave United fans even more to celebrate. A 2-1 win over reigning champions City strengthened the belief that Ten Hag is ready to turn the 20 time English champions' fortunes around. It might be too early for the Dutchman to mount a genuine Premier League title challenge this season but the improvement at United is evident.

Clark's 28 helps Citadel defeat Western Carolina 65-61

Led by Stephen Clark's 28 points, the Citadel Bulldogs defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts 65-61. The Bulldogs are now 7-11 on the season, while the Catamounts dropped to 10-9.

Sherfield scores 22, Oklahoma closes out West Virginia 77-76

Grant Sherfield scored 22 points, Jalen Hill made four clutch free throws in the final minute, and Oklahoma defeated West Virginia 77-76. Hill added 14 points for Oklahoma and Milos Uzan had 11 points, nine rebounds and five assists. At 1:40 of the second half, West Virginia's Tre Mitchell made 1 of 2 free throws and the score was tied until Hill made two free throws for a 72-70 lead. After West Virginia missed a 3-pointer, Hill added two more free throws with 14.2 seconds left. Oklahoma closed out the win with three more free throws in four attempts. West Virginia's Seth Wilson made an unguarded 3-pointer at the buzzer for the final margin.

Oduro leads George Mason past Davidson 67-65

Josh Oduro led George Mason with 22 points and sealed the victory with a free throw with 13 seconds left as the Patriots took down Davidson 67-65. Oduro added nine rebounds and five assists for the Patriots. Malik Henry scored 12 points and added six rebounds. Grant Huffman led the way for the Wildcats with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Strong 2nd half sends Hoosiers past No. 18 Wisconsin 63-45

Trayce Jackson-Davis finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Jalen Hood-Schifino added 16 points to lead Indiana past No. 18 Wisconsin 63-45 on Saturday. The Hoosiers snapped a three-game losing streak with their first win in three weeks. They did it despite playing without two injured starters. Wisconsin has lost all three games since forward Tyler Wahl went down with an injured leg. The Hoosiers overcame an ugly start to swing the game with an 18-2 run to start the second half. The Badgers never recovered. Connor Essegian had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Badgers.

Toney scores again as Brentford beats Bournemouth 2-0

Ivan Toney's 14th goal of the season has set Brentford on the way to a 2-0 win against Bournemouth in the English Premier League. Toney's first-half penalty and Mathias Jensen's late strike has inflicted a sixth straight loss on Bournemouth. It is a third consecutive league win for Brentford and makes it seven games unbeaten in a run that includes victories over Liverpool and Manchester City.

Saint Joseph's wins 86-55 against Loyola Chicago

Lynn Greer III's 17 points helped Saint Joseph's defeat Loyola Chicago 86-55. Greer added six rebounds, five assists, and three steals for the Hawks. Kacper Klaczek added 17 points, including 14 in the second half, and had five assists. Christian Winborne scored 15. Philip Alston led Loyola with 16 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. The Ramblers have lost six in a row.

Clark, Czinano, No. 12 Iowa women light up Penn State 108-67

Caitlin Clark scored 27 points, Monika Czinano added 20 and No. 12 Iowa got off to a red-hot start and never let up, rolling to a 108-67 win over Penn State. The Hawkeyes made 15 of 20 shots in the first quarter and shot 54.5% for the game. McKenna Warnock added 16 points with 10 rebounds and  Clark had 10 assists. Shay Ciezki scored 20 points for Penn State. An explosive first quarter had the Hawkeyes up by as many as 24 before the Nittany Lions cut it to 34-15. At one stretch they made 11 straight and had runs of seven, 12, five and eight points.  They finished with 13 assists, a school record for a quarter, on 15 baskets.

Ndefo scores 16, Seton Hall downs DePaul 71-67

Led by KC Ndefo's 16 points, the Seton Hall Pirates defeated the DePaul Blue Demons 71-67 on Saturday. The Pirates moved to 11-8 with the victory and the Blue Demons fell to 8-10.

AP source: Hamlin visits teammates for 1st time since injury

Damar Hamlin visited with teammates at the Bills' facility on Saturday for the first time since being discharged from a Buffalo hospital. The visit came 12 days after the Bills safety went into cardiac arrest and needed to be resuscitated on the field during a game in Cincinnati. Bills linebacker Matt Milano posted a photo on his Instagram account of a smiling Hamlin shaking hands with a teammate. A person with direct knowledge of Hamlin's schedule confirmed to The Associated Press the player's visit. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because Hamlin has kept his schedule and recovery private.

Ross, NC State push past No. 16 Miami 83-81 in OT

Ernest Ross scored on a go-ahead putback in traffic with 33 seconds left in overtime and North Carolina State beat No. 16 Miami 83-81. The late basket was part of a huge day for Ross, a 6-foot-9 second-year forward. He finished with career highs of 17 points and nine rebounds for the Wolfpack. Isaiah Wong had 25 points and six rebounds to lead Miami. The Hurricanes erased a 10-point deifict in this one after rallying from 16 down to win the first meeting. North Carolina State is 14-4 and Miami is 14-3.

Calipari, Kentucky silence doubters, beat No. 5 Tennessee

Antonio Reeves scored 18 points and Oscar Tshiebwe had 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead Kentucky to a 63-56 victory over No. 5 Tennessee on Saturday. Kentucky led 58-50 with 3:28 left in the game. Two free throws by Santiago Vescovi and two buckets by Uros Plavsic closed the gap to two with less than a minute to play. A Wildcat turnover gave Tennessee a shot to tie or take the lead, but Zakai Zeigler and Plavsic missed down low. The Wildcats showed a physical presence and dominated the Volunteers on the boards. Plavsic scored 19 points for Tennessee.

Williams' 12 lead Drexel past Northeastern 76-55

Amari Williams and Garfield Turner both scored 12 points and the Drexel Dragons defeated the Northeastern Huskies 76-55 on Saturday. The Dragons are now 10-8 with the win and the Huskies fell to 6-10.

Milan fights back from 2 goals down to draw at Lecce

AC Milan's dismal start to the year continued when it had to fight back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Lecce in Serie A. An early Théo Hernandez own goal and a header from Federico Baschirotto gave Lecce a solid halftime lead. Milan managed to rescue a point with goals from Rafael Leão and captain Davide Calabria. Milan moved back into second spot but is nine points behind Napoli. Juventus and Inter Milan are a point further back after the Nerazzurri beat relegation-threatened 1-0 Hellas Verona. World Cup winner Lautaro Martínez scored for a third straight match for Inter.

Slingsby, Aussies take lead in SailGP's Singapore regatta

Two-time defending SailGP champion Tom Slingsby and Team Australia used two good starts in fickle light wind to finish second in both races and take the lead in the Singapore Sail Grand Prix. The consistent performance in conditions that have been the Aussies' weakness gave them a four-point lead over Britain and Canada, with the United States and Denmark another point back. After Sunday's fleet races, the top three boats will advance to the podium race. Slingsby is chasing his third straight season championship and $1 million prize in tech tycoon Larry Ellison's global league.

Wolverhampton beats West Ham 1-0 in relegation fight

Daniel Podence's goal secured a 1-0 win for Wolverhampton Wanderers against fellow relegation struggler West Ham. West Ham dropped into the bottom three of the English Premier League while Wolves climbed out of the drop zone. Both sides went into the match at Molineux out of form. The host sealed a vital win courtesy of Podence's strike.

Lens wins 10th home match, Marseille wins 6th straight game

Second-placed Lens has made it 10 straight home wins in the French league after beating struggling Auxerre 1-0. Poland winger Przemyslaw Frankowski nailed a penalty kick in the 59th minute. Auxerre defender Isaak Touré was sent off midway through the second half. Northern side Lens moved to three points behind leader Paris Saint-Germain but still leads third-placed Marseille by two points after the southern side beat Lorient 3-1 at home for a sixth straight league win. Veteran Chile striker Alexis Sanchez was among Marseille's scorers. Strasbourg moved out of the relegation zone after winning at Lyon 2-1.

Forest beats Leicester 2-0 and boosts EPL survival hopes

Brennan Johnson has scored twice and Nottingham Forest has boosted its chance of English Premier League survival after beating Leicester 2-0. The result moved Forest above its East Midlands rival and five points clear of the relegation zone. Leicester suffered a fourth straight loss. Forest has lost just one of its last six league games.

Cards president: Holliday's surprise departure 'not ideal'

The resignation of Matt Holliday as the St. Louis Cardinals bench coach caught team President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak by surprise, but he's happy with the hiring of Joe McEwing. Mozeliak addressed the media Saturday morning at Busch Stadium during the Cardinals Winter Up weekend. He said he found out that Holliday was going to step down Jan. 7. Mozeliak explained he explored internal moves and promotions to the position and examined what the domino effect of that would be on the organization. He also looked at what outside options he had to fill the role. Mozeliak ended up choosing McEwing to come in for the job.

Brighton thrashes Liverpool 3-0 in EPL

Liverpool's hopes of Champions League qualification took a blow after it was thrashed at Brighton 3-0. Solly March scored twice. Liverpool has lost six times in the English Premier League. Substitute Danny Welbeck added a third in a win that leaves Jurgen Klopp's team seven points adrift of the top four in eighth place. The 2020 champion has dropped 26 points with just 18 games gone. Brighton moved above Liverpool into seventh after its first home win over the Reds since 1961.

Ward-Prowse scores twice in Southampton's win over Everton

James Ward-Prowse scored twice to help Southampton beat Everton 2-1 in a Premier League match overshadowed by security threats against Everton's board of directors. Ward-Prowse struck a free kick over the wall and into the net past a frozen Jordan Pickford in the 78th minute after evening the score just after halftime at Goodison Park. Amadou Onana had given Everton a 1-0 lead in the 39th when he headed down a corner kick past goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu. Thousands of Everton fans planned to remain in the stands in a "sit-in" protest against the club's board.

Leverkusen signs Belgian teen Noah Mbamba from Club Brugge

Bayer Leverkusen has beaten off reported English Premier League interest to sign highly rated Belgian teenager Noah Mbamba from Club Brugge. Leverkusen says the 18-year-old Mbamba signed a contract through June 2028. Mbamba is a defensive midfielder who plays for Belgium Under-19s. His contract with Brugge was up at the end of the season. He made 14 appearances in the Belgian league and three in the Champions League last season but didn't play for the senior team this season after it became clear in the summer that he didn't want to extend his contract.

Browns meet with Eagles assistant Wilson for coordinator job

The Cleveland Browns interviewed Philadelphia assistant coach Dennard Wilson to be their defensive coordinator, taking advantage of the Eagles having a bye from the first weekend of NFL playoffs to speak with him. Wilson is the third candidate to meet with the Browns. Former Detroit coach Jim Schwartz and Steelers assistant Brian Flores were in earlier this week. The Browns also plan to interview Seattle associate head coach Sean Desai. Cleveland is looking to replace Joe Woods, who was fired after three seasons. Wilson has been with the top-seeded Eagles for the past two seasons. He coached the club's defensive backs in 2021 and became the passing game coordinator this season.

Continental Europe extends lead to 2 points at Hero Cup

Continental Europe will take a two-point lead into the final day of the Hero Cup after extending its advantage over Britain & Ireland in the afternoon foursomes on Saturday. The inaugural tournament is giving European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald a chance to assess players under match-play pressure ahead of the contest with the United States outside Rome in September. Francesco Molinari's team was a point ahead overnight and maintained that advantage when the teams took 2.5 points each from the five foursomes matches on Saturday morning at Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Continental Europe then finished the afternoon 3-2 to take a 8.5-6.5 lead ahead of the Sunday singles.

Max Langenhan of Germany rallies to win World Cup luge race

Max Langenhan of Germany pulled off a big comeback on Saturday to win a World Cup singles luge race. He rallied from 12th place after the first of two heats. Langenhan had the fastest time in the second heat and held off German teammate Felix Loch for the gold. Latvia's Kristers Aparjods was third. Tucker West led the U.S. men with a ninth-place finish. In men's doubles Germany's Tobias Wendl won, with Latvia getting second and third. In women's doubles, Italy's Andrea Voetter and Marion Oberhofer got the win ahead of sleds from Latvia and Germany.

Rashford scores again as Man United beats Man City 2-1

Marcus Rashford struck the winner as Manchester United came from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1 in the Premier League. United issued a statement of its title intent with victory in the 189th Manchester derby to move within a point of the reigning champions. Substitute Jack Grealish had put City ahead in the second half, but goals from Bruno Fernandes and Rashford secured the win for Eric ten Hag's team at Old Trafford. The Buffalo Bills blew a 17-point advantage before recovering to win. That narrow escape came less than 24 hours after the Jacksonville Jaguars overcame a 27-point deficit and pulled off one of the most stunning comeback victories in playoff history on Saturday. No lead is safe and the drama abounds so far in the NFL playoffs. A loaded Sunday schedule saw the Bills hang on for a 34-31 win over the Miami Dolphins, the New York Giants upset the Minnesota Vikings 31-24 and the Cincinnati Bengals hang on to beat the Baltimore Ravens 24-17. Kaillie Humphries of the U.S. got a milestone medal Saturday, winning a World Cup women's monobob race for the 100th top-three finish of her career in major international competition. Humphries has won 70 medals in two-woman races in her career. That includes 60 in World Cups, seven at the world championships and three at the Olympics. She's won another 11 medals in monobob events, including an Olympic gold medal, 10 more on the North American Cup circuit and nine medals in team competitions.

Everton directors skip game because of 'credible threat'

Everton's board of directors did not attend Saturday's home match against Southampton because of what the clubs says was a "real and credible threat to their safety and security." The unprecedented decision follows disgruntled fans taking out their frustration at the team's poor form on club officials. The club blames "malicious and unacceptably threatening correspondence." Everton lost to fellow struggler Southampton 2-1 in the English Premier League to lie 19th in the standings.

Federica Brignone wins World Cup super-G; Shiffrin sits out

Federica Brignone won a World Cup super-G at St. Anton, Austria, for the 2020 overall champion's first victory this season. Mikaela Shiffrin skipped the race to rest while she has a dominating lead in the overall standings. Brignone mastered a course shortened because of heavy overnight snowfall to finish 0.54 ahead of Joana Hählen. Olympic champion Lara Gut-Behrami was third, trailing 0.66 behind Brignone. Sofia Goggia, the downhill standings leader, crashed out. Olympic bronze medalist Michelle Gisin also failed to finish her run. Another super-G is scheduled Sunday on the Karl Schranz course.

A's finalize $3.25M deal with Japanese pitcher Fujinami

Japanese right-hander Shintaro Fujinami and the Oakland Athletics have finalized a $3.25 million, one-year contract, a deal that allows him to earn an additional $1 million in performance bonuses for starts. The hard-throwing Fujinami could fill a void in Oakland's rotation or pitch out of the bullpen. The 28-year-old spent the past 10 seasons with the Central League's Hanshin Tigers. The 6-foot-6 Fujinami was 3-5 with a 3.38 ERA and .240 opponents' batting average in 10 starts and six relief appearances last year. He walked 21 batters and struck out 65 in 66 2/3 innings.

Bencic defeats Kasatkina in Adelaide International final

Belinda Bencic beat Daria Kasatkina 6-0, 6-2 to win the Adelaide International women's title, her sixth on the WTA Tour. The 13th-ranked Swiss player took barely an hour to beat the eighth-ranked Kasatkina. Bencic converted five of her seven break points and won almost double the amount of points than the Russian, who had been impressive in reaching the semifinals before both women had walkovers to advance to the final. In the men's title match, Soonwoo Kwon, who lost in qualifying but was a late call-up to the main draw due to an injury withdrawal, beat Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (4).

Torres swaps with Yankees; Cortes, Holmes among 9 deals

Gleyber Torres remained headed toward a salary arbitration hearing with the New York Yankees while nine teammates reached one-year agreements Friday, including All-Star pitchers Nestor Cortes and Clay Holmes. Torres asked for a raise from $6.25 million to $10.2 million, and the Yankees offered the second baseman $9.7 million. Right-hander Frankie Montas agreed to $7.5 million, while Cortes got a $3.2 million deal. Right-handers Domingo Germán, Jonathan Loáisiga and Michael King also agreed to contracts. Holmes got a $3.3 million deal, and left-hander Wandy Peralta agreed at $3.35 million. Catchers Jose Trevino and Kyle Higashioka also reached agreements.
