If you have an unpaid parking ticket in Provo, don't be surprised if you get a letter from a collection agency.
The calls and letters are taking some people by surprise. They owe hundreds of dollars on unpaid fines and interest.
Provo City recently called on a collection agency to rake in unpaid tickets from 2002 to 2006. Thousands of people are now getting expensive notices.
A senior citizen has to pay $600 for two tickets she didn't even know she had. She thinks her son got the ticket and never told her. The fine was $35, but it apparently doubles after five days and triples after 10 days. Then there's six years of interest tacked on.
A city spokesperson says they owe it to the taxpayers to collect on those debts.
