WEST VALLEY CITY — A person of interest in the murder investigation of Hope Gabaldon has been arrested in Colorado.

Sergio Briseno Medina, 26, was arrested Sunday in Denver, according to West Valley police. Investigators said Medina was not arrested in connection with the homicide, but they did not say Tuesday what he was arrested for.

Medina and Gabaldon were acquaintances, said West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.

Gabaldon, 21, of Herriman, was discovered with multiple injuries lying on the side of the road at 4000 West near 3150 South last week. She was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. A cause of death had not been revealed as of Tuesday.

Gabaldon's 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee remained missing. Detectives believe the Jeep is "a critical component" in their investigation, Vainuku said. If anyone has seen the silver Jeep, with Utah license plate number W663BR, they can call police at 801-840-4000.
