SALT LAKE CITY — Police said a 17-year-old driver was in critical condition after losing control of his vehicle and slamming into a tree Saturday night.
According to investigators, the teen was going south on 700 East near 2400 South when his car jumped the curb and hit a tree.
"It was scary," said Angel Buhler, whose front yard was littered with "parts everywhere, glass everywhere" Sunday morning.
Buhler said she often sees people speeding on the busy thoroughfare, but she's never seen anything like this.
There was no evidence the driver was impaired, but investigators are still waiting for toxicology results, police said.
Salt Lake City Police Lt. Craig Gleason said a police sergeant witnessed the crash, which took place about 10 p.m. Saturday night.
The sergeant estimated the car was going at 100 mph, according to Gleason.
"And I suspect, based on what we see here, that he was pretty accurate," he said.
