OGDEN — An Ogden man has been charged with murder in a February shooting that left another Ogden man dead in the middle of a street.

Isaac Daniel Duran, 23, was charged with first-degree felony murder and four other felonies Friday in 2nd District Court in the death of Steven Ferguson, 34.

Witnesses told police they heard four gunshots between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 in the 3500 block of Jefferson Avenue, according to charging documents.

When police and medical personnel arrived at the scene, they found Ferguson on the ground and on his back next to the driver's side of a white 2006 Dodge Stratus parked on the east side of Jefferson Avenue, charges state.

An autopsy later showed he had two gunshot wounds — one to his lower back and the other to his arm, according to the charges. The trajectory of the wound to his back severed an artery and caused Ferguson's death, charges state.

Surveillance cameras across the street captured the shooting, according to court documents. The footage shows Ferguson arriving at a home at 3552 Jefferson Avenue in the Stratus at 6:43 p.m.

Court documents say Duran was dropped off at the residence just before the shooting.

Surveillance footage shows Ferguson running toward the car "as another (man) is observed chasing him to the corner of the house and firing a gun at him," charges state.

Witnesses in the area say they heard two gunshots, followed by a pause, and then two more shots, according to the charges.

A trail of blood, which prosecutors say has been identified as Duran's, was found in the alley behind Jefferson Avenue, leading to Duran's residence near 34th Street and Adams Avenue, according to court documents. Witnesses also saw Duran walking down the same alley after hearing shots fired, investigators said.

Police said they found a revolver that uses the same caliber bullets recovered from the alley behind Jefferson Avenue. They found the revolver in a blue beanie near a pool of Duran's blood, according to court documents.

Police also found a box of ammunition in Duran's home that matches bullets in the recovered revolver, charges sate. In addition, Duran was seen with a loaded black-handled silver revolver before the shooting, according to charging documents.

After the shooting, Duran reportedly got a ride to the hospital because he was bleeding from his abdomen, charges state. Police questioned Duran about his injuries at the hospital and collected DNA samples, according to charging documents.

Duran told police he didn't know where the injuries came from and didn't want them to investigate, charges state.

Duran was booked into the Weber County Jail on Sept. 29 on the murder charge, as well as discharge of a firearm with serious bodily injury, both first-degree felonies; purchase, transfer, possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person, a second-degree felony; and discharge of a firearm, a third-degree felony.
