SYRACUSE — A man with an extensive history of burglary-related arrests and convictions was arrested yet again over the weekend.

Taylor Robert Bischoff was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of burglary of a residence, giving false information to police and writing a false witness statement for police.

The arrest comes a little over a year after Bischoff was convicted in 2nd District Court of two counts of burglary, a third-degree felony, in one case, and three counts of theft, a third-degree felony, in another. In exchange for his guilty pleas, multiple additional charges of theft and burglary were dismissed.

He was given a suspended prison sentence and placed on 36 months of probation. He was also ordered to undergo drug treatment, according to court records.

During a court hearing in May, it was noted that Bischoff was doing well in treatment and was no longer in custody. In July, court records show he started missing mandatory drug tests administered by Adult Probation and Parole. But by a court hearing on Sept. 15, he was reportedly doing well again in treatment.

On Friday, Bischoff was inside a truck that was parked inside a Syracuse resident's garage, according to a Davis County Jail report. When the resident spotted the vehicle in his garage with two men inside, he followed them as they sped away. The vehicle was later found abandoned a short distance away.

The officer investigating the case found surveillance video from a nearby business and recognized Bischoff running away from his vehicle after abandoning it. Syracuse police caught the second man in the vehicle who identified Bischoff, according to the report.

The next day, Bischoff called police to report his vehicle had been stolen, the report states. Police asked Bischoff several times if that was really his story and then made him write a statement about what happened and sign it. When Bischoff again claimed his truck was stolen, he was arrested for investigation of lying to police in addition to burglary.

A year ago, Bischoff was arrested for investigation of eight counts of residential burglary, three counts of possession of stolen property and vehicle theft. He was also convicted in 2010 of a couple of felony counts of theft by receiving stolen property, for which he was sentenced to up to five years at the Utah State Prison. In 2006, he was convicted of illegally possessing and using a credit card and was sentenced to up to five years in prison, according to court records. That same year he was convicted of felony drug possession.
