PROVO — BYU wide receiver Mitchell Juergens probably didn't expect to hear one phrase during his appearance on "BYU Football with Bronco Mendenhall."

"I am not satisfied with your social life."

But those were the words uttered with a smile from BYU football coach Bronco Mendenhall in the President's Loge of LaVell Edwards Stadium Tuesday night, referring to Juergens and his dating life.

Juergens, currently focused on catching game-winners more than his dating life, said he is not too worried.

"It's school, football, church, family, and if there is time, then social," Juergens said.

Mendenhall went to Twitter to publicly announce that Juergens is single and ready to mingle.

Juergens will have plenty of chances to work with on these dates too, maybe giving some credit back to Mendenhall when talking about the history books.

His 84-yard reception in the first quarter was the longest pass play ever executed under Mendenhall in his 10 years of being head coach. Also, his four catches for 172 yards, an average of 43 yards per catch, is second all-time in BYU history.

Mendenhall said a key to these records is the style of quarterback that Tanner Mangum has become the past few weeks.

"Tanner Mangum does not like throwing short passes," Mendenhall said.

And referring to the game-winning touchdown, that was never supposed to happen.

"I honestly didn't think that the ball was coming to me, we had a receiver on a 10-yard route to secure the first down," Juergens said. "But when he stepped up in the pocket that route was covered so he looked and saw me open and threw it up."

Mangum is redefining what an "open" receiver looks like. For the freshman quarterback, if there is a chance at a touchdown then the receiver is considered "open."

Defensive backs don't seem to bother Mangum either. Going up against Kai Nacua during the preseason has given him a boost about the type of ball hawkers he would face. Nacua was named by Mendenhall as the "Firehouse Subs Firestarter of the Game" after his three-interception performance.

The show was full of laughs about Juergens' dating life, the excitement of being a nationally ranked team and the honor it is to play in the Rose Bowl on Saturday against UCLA.

Juergens might have dreams of dating and marriage, at least Mendenhall does for him, but his current dream is just a few days away.

"It's every kid's dream to play in the Rose Bowl," Juergens said. "I am excited to get out there; it's going to be a blast."
