PROVO — A big win for BYU football on the field resulted in a pair of recruiting wins for football and basketball over the weekend.

Bingham basketball product Yoeli Childs and quarterback classmate Keaton Torre committed to head coaches Dave Rose and Bronco Mendenhall for their respective sports following the Cougars' 35-24 win over then-No. 20 Boise State late Saturday night.

Childs, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound center for the Miners, committed to BYU over offers from Arizona State, Utah State and Idaho State, and he was also attracting attention from Harvard, Stanford and Utah, among other schools. The four-star recruit was rated the No. 4 prospect from the state of Utah by ESPN.com after averaging 16.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game as a junior while leading Bingham to a Region 3 championship and the Class 5A state quarterfinals.

Childs made official his intentions via Twitter on Saturday, and it was also confirmed by his Utah Prospects AAU coach Tim Davis.

Childs is the second top-five in-state recruit to commit to the BYU basketball program, joining Timpview's Gavin Baxter.

Torre, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound pro style quarterback at Bingham, originally committed to Louisville but de-committed last March and took an official visit to BYU over the weekend.

"I cannot thank the coaches and fans at the University of Louisville enough for their support and encouragement since my commitment back in October," Torre said in a statement last March. "However, after long talks with my family, I have decided to reopen my recruiting."

The transfer from Edmond, Oklahoma, threw for 1,257 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions at Santa Fe High School in 2014 before making the move.

Torre, a three-star quarterback by Scout.com, joins a 2016 recruiting class that also includes Maple Mountain four-star quarterback Jaren Hall, the son of former BYU return ace Jalen Hall.

He announced his commitment Sunday, also via Twitter.
