SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police are seeking the public's help in identifying a man who stole nearly $12,000 in power tools and equipment, officials said.

Police responded to the call Aug. 21 at around 1 p.m., but after watching surveillance video, they learned a man stole the items the evening of Aug. 19, South Salt Lake police said.

The man arrived by the way of a newer model, dark minivan to the South Salt Lake Wastewater Pump Station at 2250 South 600 West around 8 p.m. and cut a hole through the north fence, South Salt Lake police said.

He then walked to the storage shed and cut the door latches with a big pair of bolt cutters before unloading the shed piece by piece, according to police.

The thief contacted the minivan driver to load power tools and equipment. Police said the two removed the license plate from the car.

The two took 15 items, including generators, a compressor, a lawn mower, a leaf blower, weed trimmers, a snow blower, saws, a chainsaw, a concrete saw and a pressure washer, all which were valued at $11,890, police said.

The thief was wearing a red baggy long sleeved shirt and black loose fitting pants and white shoes. He used a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and possibly a white bandana to conceal his face.

Anyone with information regarding the thief or the minivan is asked to call South Salt Lake Police Dispatch at 801-840-4000. Calls are confidential and callers may remain anonymous.
