Real Salt Lake (8-10-8) moved within three points of the Sounders (11-13-2) for the sixth and final playoff position in the Western Conference.
In the 44th minute, Kyle Beckerman surpassed Joe Cannon (30,731) for fourth place in career MLS minutes. Teammate Nick Rimando, who recorded his seventh shutout of the season, is the leader in minutes played.
