SALT LAKE CITY — Football still isn't here yet. We want football. But we can't always have what we want. That includes wanting our favorite team to earn more national attention and recognition.

The University of Utah was a top 25 team last season and looks poised to have another successful year in the Pac-12 South. BYU is back with senior quarterback Taysom Hill and the Cougars are seen as potential New Year's Six darlings if they can survive their murderous September schedule. Utah State is flying under the radar, but will fight for the Mountain West championship with perennial powerhouse Boise State. But what do the national media outlets project for the three teams?

ESPN.com posted its rankings a couple of months ago so it may be a little off with the recent developments in transfer students and injuries: Utah 38th, BYU 45th and Utah St. 58th.

CBS Sports posted its rankings last week and likes the Utah schools a bit more than ESPN: Utah 33rd, BYU 36th and Utah St. 50th.

USA Today likes one of the schools considerably more than anyone else: BYU 38th, Utah St. 42nd and Utah 43rd.

SB Nation split its rankings into tiers and gave each tier a name: "A top-15 performance would not be surprising" BYU 32nd, "A couple will play at a top-25 level" Utah 43rd, and "Top 40 is the goal (and that's OK)" Utah St. 64th.

So if you're doing the math, that makes the averages for the Utah schools this: BYU 38th, Utah 39th and Utah St. 54th.
