PROVO — Former Alta High midfielder Christian Bain was named an All-American by Top Drawer Soccer after leading the Hawks to the Class 5A boy's soccer state championship and a 19-1-1 season.

Bain, who was also named Mr. Soccer by The Deseret News, joined the BYU men's soccer team in the semi-professional Premier Development League for part of the summer, registering a goal in the Cougars' 3-2 loss to Real Monarchs that closed the season.

"The combination of skill and composure the guy has is extremely rare," BYU coach Chris Watkins said of Bain. "In my opinion, he's the best high school player in utah of the last couple years. He's going on a mission, but I think he has all the qualities to be a real professional."

The deep-lying playmaker had eight goals and 13 assists for the Hawks, who put five players on the 5A all-state team.

Bain will serve a two-year mission for the LDS Church in Brazil before rejoining his BYU soccer teammates in 2017.

"I'm really excited for his future," Watkins said. "He's a special player."
