The Utah Jazz confirmed today what the team and fans had feared: that point guard Dante Exum has a torn ACL in his left knee.

Utah Jazz physicians Dr. Travis Maak and Dr. David Petron confirmed the diagnosis after an MRI taken today after Exum returned to Utah yesterday.

Exum tore the ACL Tuesday in a friendly for the Australian National Basketball Team against Slovenia. As he drove to the rim, Exum landed a jump stop on his heels awkwardly, twisting his knee to the inside and ultimately tearing his ACL.

Here's the play:

The 20-year-old Exum had been slated to be the Jazz's starting point guard going into the 2015-16 NBA season. Now, though, the Jazz's remaining PG corps of Trey Burke, Bryce Cotton and Raul Neto will have to pick up those duties, unless the Jazz make another acquisition at the point guard spot.

Dennis Lindsey released this statement about the injury:

"First and foremost, our overriding concern is with Dante and his long-term health. We are continuing to work closely with our medical staff, Dante and his representation in order to reach an accurate diagnosis and recommended treatment so that we can provide him with the best possible care. We all know how hard he will work to make a full recovery and look forward to his return to play."

Earlier, Deseret News beat writer Jody Genessy had reported that Exum would likely miss the entirety of the 2015-16 season if the torn ACL diagnosis was confirmed. No recovery timeline was suggested by the Jazz today.
