SALT LAKE CITY — Jazz forward Gordon Hayward was named to the team USA minicamp roster Thursday, among 34 other American players expected to attend and workout with the nation's best players in Las Vegas.
With the team, Hayward will practice on Aug. 11-12. He then will participate in the 2015 USA Basketball Showcase on Aug. 13 at 8:30 p.m., an exhibition game pitting two teams of USA players against each other.
According to Jerry Colangelo, managing director of team USA, "The minicamp is going to be low-key with light workouts, no contact, and the USA Basketball Showcase on Aug. 13 will be a fun all-star type game."
This isn't Hayward's first experience with team USA. He was a finalist for the FIBA World Cup roster last summer and played for the 2012 USA Select team.
Notably, Utah Jazz teammates Derrick Favors and Trey Burke did not make the roster. Favors finished 14th in the NBA last year in PER, so it's somewhat surprising to see him left out of consideration.
Meanwhile, last month ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported that Trey Burke had been invited to the camp, but he is not on the official roster released today. Michael Carter-Williams of the Milwaukee Bucks, who was not reported by Stein as being invited, has been added to the roster, however.
