HEBER — Police arrested a man Tuesday who allegedly impersonated a waiter to steal a patron's credit card.
David James Skiby, 54, was arrested after a patron at Side Track Cafe at 98 S. Main Street in Heber City said Skiby took her credit card and never returned, according to a statement by police.
Heber police said the credit card was used at a Wal-Mart and a Maverik convenience store before he was arrested.
The woman left the restaurant without her credit card and did not report it missing to police until the next day. Thomas did not know why the woman left the eatery without her card or why she waited to report it.
"Heber City Police Department would like to thank the several anonymous (people), which came forward with information on this matter, each identifying one person," officer Xela Thomas said in a statement. "We could not have solved this without their keen eyes."
Thomas cautioned people to be careful with who they give credit to, particularly in a restaurant setting. "To safeguard yourself against future crimes similar to this, please only give your financial cards to a person wearing a uniform or name tag," Thomas said. "You can always take your card to the cash register or ask that the transaction be made in your presence."
