SUMMIT COUNTY — A woman is dead and her husband has been flown to the hospital in critical condition after a motorcycle crash on I-80 Sunday morning, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
According to UHP Trooper Jared Cornia, at about 11:18 a.m., a vehicle occupied by two men came into contact with a motorcycle ridden by a male driver and female passenger while driving eastbound toward Evanston, Wyoming. The motorcycle went down, ejecting both occupants.
The motorcyclists involved have been identified as Perry L. Smith and Stephanie R. Smith, both 57, of Henderson, Nevada.
Perry sustained critical injuries from the crash and was taken to University Hospital by helicopter. He is expected to recover, according to UHP.
Stephanie sustained fatal injuries at the scene, authorities said.
Both riders were wearing helmets.
Neither of the occupants of the vehicle involved were injured and have yet to be identified.
Accounts about what caused the incident are conflicting, Cornia said.
Delays will continue in the area during the ongoing investigation.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
