BINGHAM CANYON — A contractor working at the Kennecott Utah Copper mine was hospitalized after suffering a chemical burn on his upper body Friday.
The 43-year-old man was putting a chemical through a hose line around 6:45 p.m. when it broke and he was burned, said Kyle Bennett, spokesman for Rio Tinto Kennecott.
In-house emergency crews rinsed the man off, and he was taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital, Bennett said.
Bennett said he was unsure of the man's exact condition Friday night. He also didn't know which contractor the man works for or where he is from.
Bennett said the cause for the line's break is still being determined. The accident was an isolated incident, he said, and nobody else was hurt.
