SALT LAKE CITY — Police are attempting to identify and locate a man they say attempted to grope a female employee at the Target on 1110 S. 300 West Tuesday.

Around 8:15 p.m. a man approached a female employee working on an end cap in the baby section of the store. He began speaking to her as if he knew her, according to Salt Lake City police detective Greg Wilking, though she did not. At that point, he grabbed her arm and attempted to put his hand up her shirt, but she pulled her arms in close to her, preventing further contact.

A loss prevention employee who had been following the man due to his strange behavior upon entering the store saw the attempted assault and came over to the employee and man, Wilking said. The man then left the area and drove away from the store in a silver Toyota Yaris.

Police have distributed surveillance images of the man, who is described as having darker skin with black hair and dark eyes, standing around 5 feet 9 inches tall and between 35 and 45 years old.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call 801-799-3000. Anonymous tips may also be sent via text message to 274637 with the keyword TIPSLCPD plus relevant information in reference to case number 15-119110.
