NORTH LOGAN — Four youths were in an accident involving an ATV and a truck Wednesday evening, and two were taken to the hospital, officials said.

At around 6:15 p.m., a man was driving a white pickup truck southbound on a private property canal access road when the four boys on the ATV were driving northbound. They saw each other too late and turned the same direction, North Park police Sgt. John Italasano said.

The Ford F-350 ended up on top of the ATV in the canal near a private road around 3100 North 1600 East, officials said.

One boy was lying in the water from his torso down and another was on the canal. A third boy was up on the side of the canal, and a fourth ran home, Italasano said.

All of the boys are from around the area and are on an athletic team together. The driver of the ATV, who is the son of ATV owner, is one of the injured boys. Injuries sustained by the boys include scrapes and lacerations, an ankle injury. Their exact condition wasn't immediately known.

All of the children are young, but there age was not initially reported. One of the kids who wasn't transported to the hospital is fine and walking around, officials said.

"ATVs are dangerous, you need to wear helmets, they're designed for one person. Four is too many if that's what happened," Italasano said.

Italasano added the canal is private property and is owned by canal company and people who owns the hayfields. The ATV did not have permission to be on it, but the truck driver had the right to be there since he was farming the field.

The Bear River Health Department went to the scene to take precautions to make sure there was no oil or gas in the water.

The pickup truck driver sustained no injuries, Italasano said. This case is still under investigation.

More information will be posted when it becomes available.
