ZION NATIONAL PARK — Zion National Park biologists use cameras to help monitor the wildlife in the park and recently posted some fun, candid photos of the curious animals.
Zion National Park is home to 207 species of birds and 68 species of mammals, according to the park website. The mammals range from the kangaroo rat to the desert tortoise, but the most frequent animal sightings are of mule deer, foxes, bats, bighorn sheep and rock squirrels.
The ringtail cat, a relative of the raccoon, is rarely seen because it typically only emerges in total darkness. However, a ringtail cat was among the many animals caught on the cameras scattered throughout the park.
Zion National Park officials posted several new photos of the animals to its Facebook page Wednesday.
Other parks including Serengeti National Park in Tanzania also use cameras to help document and monitor their wildlife. Serengeti researchers recently released their 1.2 million candid photos of wild African animals.
