HEBER — A 2-acre brush fire near Jordanelle Reservoir caused an estimated 100 people to be evacuated from their homes Monday.

According to Chief Deputy Jared Rigby with the Wasatch County Sheriff's Office, the residents were evacuated from the Fox Bay condos west of Jordanelle state park, but the state park itself was not evacuated.

Mike Eriksson with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands said residents were evacuated from single-family home dwellings as well.

A local homeowner called 911 at around 12:30 p.m. after smelling the smoke. Firefighters could see flames coming up the hill as they arrived.

"It was in about 100 yards of the Fox Bay Condominiums, so it was a real scare," said Wasatch County Fire Lt. Janet Carson.

The flames were extinguished by about 2 p.m., Carson said, then fire personnel worked on cleaning up the area. Evacuated residents were allowed to return home by about 3 p.m.

There was a power bump before the fire, and fire officials believe a power issue probably sparked the fire. An exact cause is still under investigation.

The fire did not cause damage to any homes or structures, officials said, and they credit that to the moist vegetation.

"The fire season this year, ... we've been very lucky with the moisture," Carson said.

Eriksson said a fire occurred in the same area right by the condos just a few years ago. The Fox Bay fire in 2012 burned about 500 acres, and officials are calling this fire the Fox Bay II fire.
