TULSA, Okla. — For the first time in Utah history, a local girls soccer club advanced to the U.S. Youth Soccer national championship final.
But a late goal doomed Layton's La Roca FC Under-15 girls team against California's Legends FC in a 2-1 loss Sunday morning in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Bryce Reynolds gave La Roca a 1-0 lead just 15 minutes into the match, finishing off a corner kick to give the Utah club a lead that would stand until five minutes before halftime.
That's when the Legends' Alexandria Juarez struck to tie the game at 1-1 at the break.
In the dying moments of stoppage time, Legends' Kaylee Ramirez scored the gamewinner on a perfectly placed shot that dipped into the corner of the net.
La Roca became the first Utah-based girls soccer team to advance to the national championship game in U.S. Youth Soccer Association history. The U-15s earned a late 2-1 win Saturday to advance to the final.
