UINTAH COUNTY — A motorcycle accident in eastern Utah sent two riders to the hospital Sunday afternoon.
According to Utah Highway Patrol, a motorcycle was traveling southbound on state Route 191 about 13 miles north of Vernal, Utah, at approximately 1:47 p.m. when the driver, a 53-year-old male from Indiana, was unable to negotiate a sharp curve causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and crash.
The driver was not wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries. He was flown to the hospital via medical helicopter.
The passenger, a 57-year-old Indiana woman, suffered a broken leg and road rash. She was wearing a helmet. She was taken by ambulance from the scene to a nearby hospital.
The highway was shut down for about an hour while UHP investigated the scene.
It does not appear alcohol was a factor in the incident.
