LOGAN — Utah State center Austin Stephens was one of 63 centers named to the Dave Rimington Trophy watch list, the awards' committee announced Wednesday.
Stephens, who will be a junior in the fall, was one of three centers from the state of Utah named to the watch list for the award, which recognizes the nation's premier center each year. BYU's Tejan Koroma and Utah's Siaosi Aiono were also named to the watch list.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Stephens started every game for Utah State in 2014, registering 50 knockdowns with a season-high nine each against BYU and UNLV. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound lineman was an all-Mountain West honorable mention while helping the Aggies to a 10-4 record and the team's third-straight post-season bowl win.
Michigan State's Jack Allen, a 2014 finalist for the award, is among the favorites for the award, which includes 17 returning centers from last year's watch list.
The award's committee will announce its finalists Dec. 7, and the winner will be recognized at a ceremony in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Jan. 16, 2016.
