3 local chocolate companies receive awards at International Chocolate Competition

SALT LAKE CITY — Three local chocolatiers were recently recognized for some of their delicious creations at the International Chocolate Awards Americas Competition, where they won gold, silver and bronze prizes.

Amano Artisan Chocolate, Millcreek Cacao Roasters and Ritual Chocolate gleaned at least one award in the various categories.

Amano Artisan Chocolate received several awards, including a gold in the Flavored bars category for its Raspberry Rose, a silver in its Flavored bars category for its Chili Mango, a bronze in the Plain/origin bars category for its Chuao 70% Dark Chocolate, and another bronze in the Plain/origin bars for its Porcelana 70%.

The company also obtained two National Awards, including one in gold for its Raspberry Rose and one in silver for its Chili Mango.

“I think it’s really great,” Art Pollard, founder of Amano Artisan Chocolate, said of the award. “We put a lot of work into making quite literally some of the best chocolate in the world, and every time that we win some awards, it shows us that we’re doing things the right way.”

Amano Artisan Chocolate is the highest awarded chocolate company in the United States. Pollard said the public really values the company, and it is also really exciting to be recognized by his peers.

Ritual Chocolate obtained a silver in both the National Awards and the Flavored bars category for its Fleur de Sel, a savory and sweet bar with salt and dark chocolate, according to its website.

Millcreek Cacoa Roasters won a silver in the National Awards and a bronze in the Plain/origin bars for its 70% Pure Dark Chocolate Bar that has fruit and caramel undertones, according to its website.

The competition took place April 26-30 in New York and New Jersey, and was judged by food writers, cacao and chocolate experts, journalists, bloggers, chefs and chocolate-tasters from around the world and by members of the international Grand Jury panel, according to the website.
