WEST VALLEY CITY— Two known gang members who led officers on a car chase were brought down with the help of police dogs Wednesday night, police say.

The chase started around 11 p.m. Wednesday when an officer tried to pull over a possible stolen SUV. During the chase, police say they spiked the vehicle near 2100 South Redwood Road. The SUV came to a stop but the two men inside took off running, police said.

“We were able to set up a containment and the K9 units located both suspects hiding behind the businesses in the area,” said Lt. Julie Jorgensen with the West Valley City Police Department.

One man tried to fight the police dog but was hurt trying to escape, police said. The man was taken into custody and then taken to a hospital.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
