SALT LAKE CITY — Three local restaurants were temporarily shut down last week after their Salt Lake County Health Department inspections.

Chinese restaurant Ho Mei BBQ was closed June 25 for “imminent health hazards” and 81 health code violations, including watermelon being stored in a tray of duck blood, poisonous or toxic materials being stored in a food container and multiple employees not having a current food handler card.

Located at 3370 South State Street, Unit 6, Ho Mei BBQ was also found to have many unclean surfaces, including shelves, the ceiling and floor and the inside of a cooler.

Good Future, another Chinese restaurant, was shut down June 25 for “imminent health hazards and abundant critical violations.”

Inspectors found the restaurant at 285 E. 2700 South to have 54 additional violations, including customers' partially eaten rice being reused, not having soap at the hand sink, burnt cigarettes being stored on a food preparation surface, uncovered chili in the storage room and a nonfunctioning women employees' toilet.

Mexican restaurant Tacos Amarillo #2 at 1050 E. 2100 South was shut down June 24 for not having an approved permit or a functional handwashing sink. The restaurant had a total of six violations.
