SALT LAKE CITY — As members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir head out on their new tour, popular member Alex Boye helps give a rip-roaring start to proceedings in this video.

The choir left for a two-week tour to the northeastern United States on June 26, a tour that comes to fruition after “years of preparation, planning and extra memorization time,” according to a press release.

Just before their flight to Maryland, the choir’s first stop of the tour, Alex Boye commandeered the intercom to get the choir pumped up in the only logical way for the choir — with a snippet of “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.”

Considering the choir’s history, the song could have also been “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” but that has less immediate joy. Either way, it’s a fun way to let the public in on the mood and excitement of the members.

What makes a tour:
  • 360 choir members
  • 100 orchestra members
  • 30+ songs memorized
  • 11 buses
  • 6 Trax trains
  • 3 airplanes

Boye also lists the number of members, planes and busses and other stats required to make a tour of this size work, and it’s impressive.

The choir’s Atlantic Coast Tour will travel to five cities and several venues, including Yankee Stadium. It’s the first time in over a decade that the choir has toured the East Coast.
