SALT LAKE CITY — The fan reaction when the Utah Jazz drafted Kentucky freshman Trey Lyles with the No. 12 overall pick was mixed, but more seemed to like the pick than not.

A few called it a "waste of a pick," while others said adding another big man to the roster in the 6-foot-10, 235-pound power forward from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, by way of Indianapolis isn't a bad thing.

A lot of rumor and speculation swirled around the Jazz's pick after they didn't move up past No. 12 in the NBA draft lottery. Plenty of folks thought Utah would look to grab an outside shooting threat — a few trade rumors even floated around the Internet at the 11th hour — but the allure of the big man couldn't be passed up.

Around 6:50 p.m. local time, fans found out the Jazz had selected the former Wildcat who averaged nearly nine points and five rebounds per game last season.

The Jazz also grabbed former Boston College point guard Olivier Hanlan with the No. 42 overall selection in the second round, then traded their other second-round pick, Spanish national team player Daniel Diez, to Portland.
