SALT LAKE CITY — Record-setting Utah high school quarterback Austin Kafentzis' career didn't get off on the right foot in his time at Wisconsin.

Kafentzis kept his committment to the Badgers, even when head coach Gary Andersen took the same job at Oregon State, and the prolific quarterback enrolled early in Madison, Wisconsin, while giving up his senior season on the Jordan track team to participate in spring practices.

But Kafentzis saw limited time in the Badgers' spring game, finished fifth on the depth chart under new head coach Paul Chryst, and announced last month he would be transferring elsewhere.

That elsewhere now has a name.

Kafentzis has enrolled in summer classes at the University of Nevada-Reno, and plans to formally seek a transfer to the Wolfpack this season, the former prep standout's father confirmed to KSL Wednesday. Kafentzis' Wikipedia page was updated to reflect the transfer, leading to multiple reports.

Kafentzis plans to compete for the quarterback spot with the Wolfpack this fall, and he has good reason to do so. He owns 15 Utah high school state records from his senior season, including total offense at 20,021 yards and most career touchdowns with 103.

The freshman-to-be is not currently on the Wolfpack's football roster, but he would be eligible to play in 2016-17 after sitting out a season per NCAA transfer rules, and barring a change in his eligibility status. Kafentzis also has a redshirt season available.

As a prep senior, Kafentzis led the Beetdigers to the Class 5A state semifinals before a broken collarbone ended his high school career prematurely. He was named the 2014 Game Night Live player of the year by KSL-TV and KSL.com.
