PROVO — Lone Peak star Frank Jackson is arguably the biggest prize of the 2016 recruiting class in Utah high school basketball.

But he’s far from the only talent on the board.

BYU head coach Dave Rose landed Timpview forward Gavin Baxter on Monday, receiving a commitment from the 6-foot-7, 180-pound senior-to-be whom Scout.com lists as a four-star prospect.

Baxter also had offers from Arizona State, UCLA and Utah State, according to the recruiting service. But he chose the Cougars after visiting with Rose and his staff.

As most recruits are apt to do, Baxter announced his commitment via Twitter.

Excited to say that I've committed to BYU. This is a dream come true. Can't wait to see what the future holds. #GoBYUpic.twitter.com/CS9YNVQIch — gavin Baxter (@gbax35) June 8, 2015

Baxter plans to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints following his senior year in 2015-16 and will enroll at BYU for 2018-19.

The Thunderbirds’ leading scorer last year averaged 15.5 points per game and netted a team-high 25 3-pointers during 2014-15 as Timpview reached the Class 4A state semifinals in February.

AINGE PICKS AGGIES — Utah State also got some good recruiting news over the weekend.

New Hampshire point guard Crew Ainge announced his commitment to new head coach Tim Duryea on Friday and posted it to Twitter over the weekend.

Blessed to announce I have committed to play ball at Utah State! Thank you to everyone who has helped me throughout this process. #Aggies — Crew Ainge (@UncleCR3W) June 7, 2015

Ainge, the son of Danny Ainge, a former BYU and NBA star and current Boston Celtics president of basketball operations, attended Kimball Union Academy in New Hampshire last year. Crew Ainge is the second addition to the Aggie roster since Duryea was announced as the new head coach, joining Miami junior college transfer Shane Rector.

The younger Ainge also plans to serve a mission before college and will enroll in 2017 — just in time for current Utah State sophomore guards Julion Pearre, Henry Bolton and Sam Orchard to play in their senior seasons.

Ainge visited San Diego recently before picking the Aggies after a trip to Logan.
