ROY — A man who was missing for more than 24 hours and found Monday has died.

John Thurgood, 82, went missing Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m. The man, who had Alzheimer’s disease, was found Monday evening by Union Pacific Railroad employees about 50 miles outside of Park Valley, Box Elder County, near the Utah Idaho border. Emergency crews took him via helicopter to Ogden Regional Medical Center with injuries.

He later died due to exposure, the Roy Police Department said. Police did not suspect anything suspicious about Thurgood’s death.

In a previous incident, Thurgood had left his home and ended up in Nevada without fuel, water or food. He did not know where he was or how he got there, according to Roy police.
