HERRIMAN — One individual died and another is in serious condition following an accident in Herriman early Saturday morning, police said.

Just after 5:00 a.m. Saturday, a Honda traveling southbound on Mountain View Corridor was attempting to make a left turn onto 13400 S. when it was hit by a Jeep truck traveling westbound, according to Unified Police detective Ken Hansen. The driver of the Honda, identified as Yesica Ramos, 39, of Riverton, was killed, Hansen said.

The driver of the Jeep truck, identified as Wyatt Horton, 18, of Herriman, was taken to the hospital in serious condition, according to Hansen.

Southbound traffic on Mountain View Corridor at 13400 S. was closed, as were westbound lanes, but both have reopened.

It may take a few weeks for the investigation to determine the full cause of the accident, according to Hansen. Speed appears to have been a factor. Hansen stressed that intersections on high-speed highways can be more dangerous, and advised drivers to look both ways even at green lights.
