CENTERVILLE — Police captured a fugitive with the help of a bystander Friday evening after the man reportedly used a trampoline for his initial escape.

Justin Ray Anderson, of West Valley City, was arrested on an outstanding fugitive of justice warrant and for investigation of avoiding apprehension and drug offenses.

A Centerville police officer reportedly recognized Anderson, 32, near a home close to 400 West and 700 North around 4:30 p.m. The officer ran a background check and saw the felony warrant for Anderson's arrest, said Centerville Assistant Police Chief Paul Child.

"(Anderson) has been known to flee," Child said in a prepared statement. "The officer called for additional units to assist with the apprehension."

Several officers surrounded the home Anderson was in, Child said. Anderson exited through the back door and was "running very fast," Child said.

"Anderson then used a trampoline in the backyard to jump over a tall fence going into another yard," the assistant chief said.

Centerville police issued a "code red" alert to notify nearby residents and businesses about Anderson's presence in the area, Child said. Four K-9 officers were called in as police began combing the neighborhood.

While officers were still searching, a nearby homeowner checked on his shed "because his chickens were acting up," Child said. The man opened his shed and tackled Anderson after he allegedly emerged from it and took off running.

Officers arrived in the yard and arrested Anderson shortly before 6 p.m. He was later booked into the Davis County Jail.
