LEHI — The population in Lehi continues to grow, and with new growth comes the need for new schools, roads and hospitals.

The city now has the newest hospital in the state with the grand opening ceremony of Mountain Point Medical Center held Friday. The 28-acre campus is on the east side of I-15 across from Thanksgiving Point at 3000 N. Triumph Blvd., and is set to officially open Monday.

“Northern Utah County is one of the fastest-growing areas in the entire country,” said Kent Loosle, CEO of Mountain Point Medical Center.

Lehi has been called the epicenter of rapid growth in Utah. A decade ago, Lehi had 30,000 residents; today it’s around 56,000 and still growing rapidly, Mayor Bert Wilson said.

“We’ve always had to go out of town for anything medical,” Wilson said.

That's why Mountain Point Medical Center, a campus of the Jordan Valley Medical Center, is so critical.

“We have a lot of growth that is coming on. We just needed a medical facility at the north end of the county for some time,” Wilson said.

Mountain Point Medical Center has 40 beds with room to expand to 140. There's a full-service emergency room with two trauma bays, a cardiac catheterization laboratory, and digital MRI and X-ray.

"I think we can save a lot of lives because the timing is going to be so much shorter now than what we've had in the past,” Wilson said.

The location of the hospital will enhance its ability to provide care close to home, Loosle said.

“People can get to the hospital fast, right here by the freeway, right here by Thanksgiving Point,” he said.

Women's services rooms offer the necessities with plenty of comfort for moms in labor.

"They're beautiful,” Wilson said. “You almost want to be pregnant to come back to the hospital."

As with the rest of the hospital, the equipment is the latest and greatest. Right now, there are four operating rooms with room to expand to eight, and even beyond, as the population grows.

"Physicians from Utah County have been supportive and want to be able to work at this new facility,” Loosle said.

The medical staff of 250 was picked from a pool of 4,000 applicants.

The hospital is operated by IASIS Healthcare, which also operates Davis Hospital and Medical Center, Jordan Valley Medical Center, Jordan Valley West and Salt Lake Regional Medical Center.
