AMERICAN FORK, Utah (AP) — A 19-year-old man accused of burning a toddler's hands and genitals with scalding hot water has been sentenced to one to 15 years in prison.
The Daily Herald newspaper in Provo reports (http://bit.ly/1FOJdps ) that Blake Wright was sentenced Tuesday in a courtroom in American Fork. Wright pleaded guilty to two counts of felony child abuse in April.
Police say Wright was babysitting last November when he put the 3-year-old boy's fingers and genitals under boiling water in the bathtub after he became frustrated with the child. The boy is his girlfriend's child. The toddler suffered severe burns.
Wright's attorney, Lisa Estrada, tells The Associated Press that Wright is heartbroken over what happened and will seek counseling and therapy while in jail. She says Wright also hopes the boy gets counseling and recovers.
